An Uninsured Family Tired of Being Exploited is Ignored by the Press
By Pastor Matt Trewhella The Covenant News ~ August 20, 2009
On June 11th, President Barack Obama kicked off his national socialized healthcare campaign in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Our family was there with signs to oppose this tyranny.
Our family also sent out a press release to hundreds of media outlets stating that we are some of the 43 million "uninsured" and we are tired of being exploited by unsavory, socialistic, politicians. The press release read in part:
"Matthew and Clara Trewhella live in southeastern, Wisconsin. They have eleven children, nine of whom still live at home (the oldest two are married). They have been married for 27 years and during that time they have only been able to afford health insurance for one of those years when it was provided by an employer.
"Unsavory politicians routinely use the statistic that ‘43 million people in America are uninsured' to try and push their universal government healthcare schemes. We are some of the 43 million, and we are tired of politicians using us as a statistic for their socialistic designs! We do NOT want any healthcare from the government."
How many calls did we get? We thought we would get many. All we see constantly in the news are stories of people whining for government healthcare. We would provide an opportunity for the press to get a different viewpoint.
How many calls? Just one from a Christian media source. We pursued the press further. We soon learned however that the reason there are only whiners for government healthcare on news stories is because the press will only cover whiners who want government healthcare in their stories.
Why do we feel so strongly about this matter? Because this the biggest attack upon our liberties and freedom in our lifetime. Let me just share a few short reasons to oppose this attempted power grab by government.
1. Every person will be issued a national health ID card.
2. The government will have carte blanche access to all your medical records.
3. The government will have access to your savings account to make withdrawals for whatever they decide you owe them for your health needs.
4. Everyone will be required to participate and you will be criminalized and fined if you do not participate. Right now everyone receives healthcare in America. There is no one denied healthcare in America. But under the government plan, you must participate through them or you will be denied healthcare.
5. The government will decide what healthcare needs you are required to provide for your children. If you do not go along, for example, by refusing certain vaccinations for your children, then you will be charged with child neglect.
6. Healthcare will be rationed. I was raised in Detroit, Michigan. Canada was right across the river. They have had socialized government healthcare for decades. While growing up, I routinely saw news stories about Canadians coming to America for their healthcare needs because of the rationing of healthcare with government bureaucrats deciding who gets care and who does not in Canada. Obama has already admitted "hard decisions" will have to be made.
And then there are major moral issues.
1. Under the government plan, abortion will be provided. You, as a taxpayer, will be paying directly for the murder of innocent people.
2. Under the government plan, there will be ‘end of life counseling' to direct the elderly and others towards euthanasia for the good of the whole.
3. Under the government plan, you will also pay to provide perverts with their sex change operations.
If I hear one more Christian say, "but this is free healthcare," I think I will scream. How naïve can you be? Nothing from the government is free. The government cannot create wealth. Government can only seize the wealth of others. They then redistribute the wealth, usually with the design to garner as many future votes as they can for their own self-benefit.
This "free healthcare" is about control. When I was young, a popular saying was – "with the shekels, come the shackles." People were suspicious of "free things" from the government man who was there just to "help" you. Now we are a nation of cattle who go along with however the State directs us.
Just as the pig farmer throws the goodies into the pig trough and all the little piggies come running, so the politician promises and provides all kinds of goodies in the government trough, and the American people come a runnin' to make sure they "get theirs."
As Christians, our trust is to be in God and family, not the State. As Christians, we have tasted true liberty and the Scriptures exhort us "do not become the slaves of men" (I Cor. 7:23). Therefore as Christians, we should abhor and oppose tyranny whenever it raises its ugly head. We don't have to sit around and wonder (like the emasculated American church) ‘what would Jesus do.'

Even though the press ignored them, Obama drove right past their signs (notice the seal on the door).
