The Presidential Election Made Clear: American Christians Need to Repent
By Pastor Matt Trewhella The Covenant News ~ November 12, 2008
Do you hear that wooshing sound? That's America going down the toilet of history. I was already amazed at how quickly this nation was going down morally, but now having elected a Marxist to president, the speed of our nation's demise will increase. Just like the feces slowly starts rotating in a circle after the flushing, but then picks up speed, so America will now go down quicker than ever. And the deluded state of Christians during this flushing is even more unnerving.
This election cycle revealed the nakedness of both black and white Christians.
Nearly every black Christian in America voted for Barack Obama. This in spite of the fact he supports the murder of the preborn; he embraces sodomy and will sign into law hate-crimes legislation which will ensure the imprisonment of Christians within a year of his taking office; he will impose government health care upon all Americans wherein all children will be required to be a part of his system and parents who do not participate will be criminalized and fined; and he will implement the state as a tool for theft and steal money from one person so he can give it to someone else.
He even openly mocked the Bible, yet nearly every black American Christian voted for him anyway. Hence, black Christians proved their allegiance is not to Christ first, but to the color of their skin. And for this, they need to repent.
Meanwhile, white Christians lined up behind Sarah Palin – a woman – for high public office. They ridiculed those who invoked Scripture to point out this was unbiblical. It would have been one thing if the Christians supporting her simply admitted they knew it was unbiblical and contrary to Scripture for her to be in office, but the threat of an Obama presidency was so awful they felt compelled to vote for her anyway. But that wasn't the case. They actually wanted to change 2000 years of biblical interpretation and declare that it was biblically right for her to be in public office.
Such thinking shows how far egalitarianism has invaded the thinking of Christians in America. White Christians actually think the paradigm or model of the world for how women are to live and function is better than God's model as revealed by Holy Scripture. Hence, white Christians proved their allegiance is not to the Word of God first, but to political expediency. And for this, they need to repent.
That we live in dire times, there is no doubt.
We need to realize the kingdoms of men come and go. His kingdom is eternal. How we conduct our lives during these dark times must have one motivation – faithfulness to Him. While most in the culture and in the church walk around with their eyes glazed over from their constant pursuit of entertainment and meism, we need to renew our devotion and fealty to Him. Drawing close to Him in prayer and daily reading of His Word is no longer an option.
There are three things we must practice and/or proliferate at this time.
First, we must preach repentance. I strongly encourage you to get Francis Schaeffer's book Death in the City and give it a fresh read. Though penned 30 years ago, the message is based on the Book of Jeremiah and written in a timeless fashion so it is still applicable to us today.
Second, we need to instruct Christians in the doctrine of the lesser-magistrate. When evil and immorality abound in a nation like they do in America, and high government officials consent to and proliferate that evil and immorality, people need to know the duty of the lesser-magistrate in the sight of God. We need to instruct the magistrates themselves in these matters also.
Third, we need to instruct men in their God-given role as providers, protectors, and priests, especially regarding their role as priest to their homes. The family is the rudimentary foundation upon which all of society is built. If we do not try to repair what is torn down there, all else is just spinning webs of sand.
I will be writing about these matters in the months ahead.
In the meantime, stay strong in Him. Perhaps Obama's winning has a silver lining, namely, that it will rouse people out of their slumber. Had the Republicans won, we surely would have continued with self-absorbed indifference.
