What Does The Future Of Our Nation Hinge On?

Every four years I hear the same mantra. "I believe the future of our nation hinges on this presidential election!" This statement is made by countless Christians with much anxiety in their voices. Though it is good to know that there are Christians out there who are not just concerned about their own personal peace and affluence, the truth is the future of our nation does not hinge on the presidential election.

The future of our nation hinges on whether or not we are going to live as Christians 365 days a year, not just for a short time every four years. We have a King, His name is Jesus. He has a law/order, namely His Word. And He calls upon us to be His ambassadors and declare his public policy to the nation. This we must do 365 days a year.

We cannot come unglued every four years and resort to the ‘Henny-Penny' theology that the sky is falling based on the outcome of the presidential election. The truth is our nation continues to move away from a biblical worldview, regardless of which political party is in power.

The rebellion against God by the people of our nation is already evident in what is taught in the schools and what is consumed as entertainment. The presidential election is merely a gauge of how bad the rebellion has become in the hearts of men.

When we try to correct the evil that we see by hitching our wagon to the conservative movement, it just moves us further away from a biblical worldview because conservativism is not based on Scripture. The latest evidence of this is the pom-pom waving behind Sarah Palin, an avowed feminist. Their solutions and worldview is usually just ten or twenty years behind the liberals.

The Bible and Christianity offer real solutions to the governance of man because they represent the Creator of man. Too bad this nation will have to descend and destruct before it will see how truly beneficial the Bible and Christianity has been to the nations of the western world down through the ages. It pains me to have to witness it. It is like watching a slow train wreck you are powerless to stop.

No nation which has embraced homosexuality has ever thrown it off. I doubt our nation will be the first to do so. Neither political party seems to have the will to throw it off. The iceberg hit long ago. Five compartments of the hull of this ship are now taking on water. The only question now is – how long will it take to sink under the waves.

Recently while on a campus preaching God's Word, we told some students that the chief purpose of man was to live to glorify God. A young man responded by accusing God of being on an ego trip. "How selfish of Him" he said. This was a pathetic sight for me to witness. Here is finite man shaking his fist in the face of God, totally oblivious to his own prideful rebellion while he accuses his Creator wrongfully. I realized as I stood there - what this young man was doing individually, our nation is doing collectively.

So what do we do? The kingdoms of men come and go. His kingdom rolls ever on. Though we may want to retreat to a farm till all this passes, we must continue to fight. Not only are we His ambassadors, but He also calls us His soldiers. And as His ambassador/soldiers, we must take up our sword, His Word, and do battle with every high thing which exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

We must fight on as His ambassador/soldiers. Our hearts can do no other. Let us therefore do war for our Savior and King – for His Name sake, and for the sake of sake of men – 365 days a year.
