Call Them to Repentance
The other day a man was telling me about a difficult situation he is facing at his place of employment of 15 years. He said his boss, the chief executive officer of a large corporation, was calling himself a Christian while at the same time promoting sinful activities through company policies.
He said his boss was a member of a mainline denomination and attended church on a regular basis, but at work he approved of his company promoting and funding abortion activities. When the man mentioned his concern over company policy of promoting abortion to his boss, he said the boss just sloughed it off as political expediency and good public relations.
Furthermore, he said his boss began knowingly hiring feminists and sodomites, and has now approved of domestic partner benefits, not only for employees who are fornicators, but also extended his benefits to the sodomites. Again, when the man talked to his boss about his real concerns he received the same pragmatic answer.
Being in a key management position at the company the man was very concerned that he was approving of, and contributing to, the company's murder of children by abortion, promotion of fornication, and the crime of sodomy, and asked me what I thought he should do about it.
I asked him what his pastor told him to do about it.
The man became agitated and said his pastor keeps telling him, and the other men in the church, to "hang in there and just let the light of Jesus shine out through your life and that will draw other people to you and make them want what you have."
The man continued and explained that over the years the only thing all this "shining" has done is show the sinners how willing he is to compromise his Christian faith in the face of these seriously sinful activities. Now the man believes he has lost the ability to call his co-workers to repent of their sin.
I told him he was exactly right.
The moment you demonstrate to the lost sinner that you are willing to compromise on some sin issues then you've lost the effectiveness to proclaim the Gospel and call them to repentance through Jesus Christ, because all they will do is laugh you to scorn, calling you a hypocrite.
Continuing, I told him that the situation with his boss is a different matter. It sounded to me like his boss is a heretic: one who espouses views and behaves contrary to the teaching of Biblical doctrine.
Since his boss attends a "mainline denomination" church, it is the responsibility of the leadership of that denomination to admonish a heretic, twice if need be, and if he refuses to repent, then the leadership must reject him from the Church (Titus 3:10-11).
However, if the denomination teaches that the promotion of murder by abortion, or fornication, or sodomy are permissible business practices, then that denomination is teaching heresy and Christians who espouse such teachings are heretics. "As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (Gal. 1:9)
Is it possible for a whole denomination to be a denomination of heretics?
In today's Church environment when leadership, along with the members, of whole denominations promote abortion, ordain sodomites, preform same-sex "weddings," or wink at adultery and fornication in the church, you have to conclude denominational heresy is a way of life for many Christians in America today.
What can Christians do if they find themselves in a church where the leadership is committing heresy?
"A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself." (Titus 3:10-11). Notice where it says "being condemned of himself." This means the heretic -- refusing to repent -- is damned and going to hell by his own actions.
Christian men in such a denomination must go to the leadership and call them to repentance, twice if need be. But if they refuse to repent, then the Christians must "reject" them. Which means, let them be damned by their own actions and you go find another church. If you do not, then you are allowing yourself to be led by heretics -- "And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch." (Matt. 15:14)
I continued, and said to the man he needs to go to his boss with the Word of God, and admonish him for his sinful business practices, twice if need be. The man answered and said if he did that, it would probably get him fired. But, the alternative is working for a heretic whose business practices are murdering children, and rewarding fornication and sodomy, and bringing the consequences of those sins upon himself, his company, and all those who work for him.
I told the man that he is definitely not alone in this kind of difficult situation. The character of his boss is similar to what we have in President George W. Bush. A man who is the chief executive officer of the federal government. He calls himself a Christian and a member of a mainline denomination, while at the same time his administration promotes and maintains murder by abortion, and he hires sodomites. President George Bush has been publicly admonished for his sinful policies and activities more than twice, and he still is unrepentant. And "look how many Christians are in the federal government being led by a damned heretic in the White House, contributing to the murder of children by abortion, and the crime of sodomy, and bringing the consequences of those sins upon themselves."
The man smiled and said he would be talking to his wife and preparing her for the possibility that he might soon be unemployed, and may be looking for work with a new company in the very near future.
