Long term questions about the Fed's intervention

The Federal Reserve's decision to become an emergency lender to all major investment firms is leading to some big questions. Yet again, economic "experts" ignored one of the key tenets of economics: policies have to be analyzed for long-term ramifications. Or, perhaps many of those "experts" know exactly what those long-term ramifications are and purposefully set the course that would take us there. It’s good to see the Washington Post questioning the wisdom of bailouts, though their reluctance to challenge big government on any level for most of the past few decades is infamous.
