Washington Lobbyists Breed Corruption
Jack Abramoff may not bring down as many people as Nixon White House counsel John Dean did back in the Watergate days, but he is sure to touch a lot of hides in order to save his own ("Lobbyist's plea likely to expose seamy underside of Congress," Editorial, Wednesday). What the American people have to understand, however, is that as long as people are allowed to lobby lawmakers on anything; as long as lawmakers are gerrymandered into office — where it takes an act of God to get them out; as long as we don't limit the terms of members of Congress; we will continue to have corruption throughout our government. Why? Because the chances of getting caught are very slim. One more thing: If you check the names of those involved with Abramoff, you'll see the scandal hits both Republicans and Democrats. No one side should try to put the blame on anyone but itself.
