Bush slips up in praising local church

In a satellite address to members of the Southern Baptist Convention about his faith-based efforts, President Bush praised an Orlando Baptist church. There was just one problem. The church is no longer affiliated with the denomination. "My administration awarded College Park Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida, $5.8 million to build 68 homes for low-income seniors," Bush told Southern Baptists gathered in Nashville for their two-day annual convention. However, the College Park congregation no longer sends money or delegates to the Southern Baptist Convention. For about 15 years, it has been aligned with the moderate Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, which represents a breakaway faction that lost a bitter power struggle with conservatives in the late 1980s.
