Bible History
The fascinating story of how we got the Bible in its present form actually starts thousands of years ago, as briefly outlined in our Timeline of Bible Translation History. As a background study, we recommend that you first review our discussion of the Pre-Reformation History of the Bible from 1,400 B.C. to 1,400 A.D., which covers the transmission of the scripture through the original languages of Hebrew and Greek, and the 1,000 years of the Dark & Middle Ages when the Word was trapped in only Latin.

The KJV vs. Other Bible Translations Controversy
The King James version was translated from the ‘Textus Receptus’ or ‘received text’, that is, the majority of Greek manuscripts which agree with each other and have been accepted through the centuries. The variations among the majority text are very minor, but “the remaining handful of manuscripts are as diverse as dogs and dragons” according to G.A.Ripling (New Age Bible Versions).

Leaders Of The Political System Serve Leaders Of The Political System

Leaders Of The Political System
Serve Leaders Of The Political System

By Bob Strodtbeck

The Covenant News ~ December 4, 2009

An important fact that we all need to face is that the Republican/Democrat political system that controls access to the government is going to do whatever it takes to hold onto its power.

This means continued wars, continued expansion of government influence, and continuation of policies that diminish the value of our currency, labor, and assets. How has the War Against International Terrorism benefited the nation? Why do officials in the government believe that, despite the huge debt it has amassed ($12.1 trillion as of this writing and over $70 trillion in unfunded liabilities), it can efficiently and economically administer the practice of medicine? How does fear mongering over specious environmental crises and crushing regulations that inhibit development of productive industries relieve growing unemployment?

The answer to these and countless other questions regarding the actions of American government is that they only serve to help Democrats and Republicans hold on power. Democrats have kept their supporters in tow for decades by promising to use the power of government by using public revenues to correct social iniquities-or redistribution of wealth programs. Republicans have opposed those notions, but not done anything to stop them. They, on the other hand, have found that their conservative bases are generally attracted to the idea of using government power to go out and kick some butts now and then. Therefore, we have a never ending war for an unachievable goal involving us in the most provincial of rivalries around the world.

It seems that the consequences of inept and corrupt leaders are going to affect most, if not all, of us. The suggestion that common Americans can organize to stop the usurpation of their freedoms and property is here considered to be absurd. The American government has been abrogating our freedoms for, according to some thinkers, for most of two centuries. Standing up to the government as it has reached a point of irresistible power would require a common and spontaneous cause that could result in a political upheaval. The greatest hope is that such would limit violence and unseat those who currently control the government-not unlike what was seen in the former Soviet Union in 1991.

That political overthrow, however, was directed against a single party which could not escape the consequences of its ineptitude.

Americans have been split into two, seemingly competing herds, though. Since 1992 these herds have been skillfully manipulated into believing that changing the party in power would restore the nation to its past glory. During the Clinton years, the Conservative/Republican (C/R) herd believed that it could preserve our freedoms from the incompetence and meddling of the Liberal/Democrats (L/D). It is interesting to note that, although the C/R herd could lead a monumental political change in Congress in the 1994 mid-term election due to the failures of the Clinton presidency, it could not engineer an election victory over Mr. Clinton.

Finally, though, the C/R herd ascended to political control over the presidency and both houses of Congress in 2000 with promises of “conservative” government and “…more modest foreign policy”. Of course 9/11 changed everything and made global statists out of most parsimonious politicians on the planet (save for a patriot named Ron Paul). Through the fumbling and bumbling and inarticulating of America’s War Against International Terrorism by President George W. Bush, the L/D branch made headway against C/R majorities and reclaimed control of the Congress in 2006. Coincidentally, the L/D’s could not electorally unseat the leader who led C/R’s to defeat.

The cycle is starting again, C/R’s are waiting in the wings to take advantage of the mishandling of the nation’s affairs by the L/D political authorities. President Barrack Obama came to power promising to draw down the wars in the Middle East, instead he is devoting more resources and manpower to both fronts, has expanded our aggression into Pakistan, and is being pulled into a confrontation with Iran. Economically he has nearly tripled the deficits of the Bush presidency which more doubled and nearly quadrupled the deficits of the Clinton administration.

With each election cycle too many adults have been trained to wait on the side lines until their favorites can be restored to power. After each election those same adults feel the dread of a newlywed who has spontaneously decided to take marital vows with a stranger during a wild night in Las Vegas.

Just like the consequences of a bad marital decision comes to those who so lightly consider their vows, we too are facing disastrous consequences to our national future largely because of our partisan traditions (let us not forget that the service of elected officials also starts with a vow to honor the U.S. Constitution). The political system dictating our government is not going to turn the ship of state around because those at the top of it don’t have to-too many of us are willing to support it in spite of its incompetence.

The affects of our incompetent and corrupt political system are already undeniably apparent. The problems we face are deep-seated and many including the collapse of the dollar, our inability to support our foreign adventures, the forfeiture of our productive-industrial economic base in favor of a service-consumer base, and the legal-regulatory stranglehold on our freedom to resurrect labor and production as the foundation to the economy.

As American continues to become crippled by these unintended consequences, the leaders of the political system and its supporters have chosen denial over facing its ineptitude. Are we going to come to our senses and stop denying that the problems are the result of the party we reject? Can we have the courage to choose intellectual and political freedom from a system that is acting more and more aggressively to enslave us? Do we still have a choice?

I Have The Power to Lead The Nation to Ruin

I Have The Power to Lead The Nation to Ruin

By Bob Strodtbeck

The Covenant News ~ July 14, 2008

Every four years I suddenly come into possession of some incredible powers, according to acquaintances that fall into my social circles.

I can single-handedly determine whether or not the United States of America will proudly move forward into the, “broad sunlit uplands,” of its Providential destiny, or collapse into a terror-ridden, third world cinder on the ash heap of history.

This power has come to me because I have voiced my disgust with choosing, “the lessor of two evils.”

You see, I have not voted for either a Republican or Democrat on any level of government since 1992. When the future of the world’s last surviving super power is left to the whims of my vote, many in my social circles have let me know that my various votes for Pat Buchanan, Michael Peroutka, and this year’s alternative party choice between Libertarian Bob Barr or Constitutional Party Nominee Chuck Baldwin is akin to allowing the anti-Christ to rise to power and destroy the American dream.

To some extent this has much to do with the social circles in which I find myself. I am white, middle-class (although less so than eight years ago), socially conservative, and Christian. That is the Republican profile. It does not matter that Republicans, although promising for years to restore constitutional limits to government, balance budgets, and eschew nation-building in favor of a, “…more humble foreign policy,” betrayed all of those goals to put America in a precarious social, economic and foreign policy position, the state of the nation will only become worse by my vote for a party not Republican.

The duty on my social group is not entirely unlike that put upon black, emerging middle-class, socially-conscientious, civil rights focused voters who must vote Democrat. Although I am not party to those social circles as a routine, I do know that Democrats have controlled the legislative flow from Washington during 42 of the last 54 years and their disdain for government rivals mine.

This brings me to a fascinating observation: It seems clear that neither the Republicans or Democrats are really serving the interests or needs of the major voting blocks upon which they depend for their access to elected offices. If this is so, isn’t the willful support of these two voting blocks actually enabling officials of those parties to persist in their lies and abuse of their constitutional duties? Furthermore, if those who criticize me for potentially ruining the country are actually bringing ruin by supporting a corrupt, dysfunctional political system, is not withholding my vote from that system an act of civic responsibility that can actually begin a political restoration of the nation?

While the two party political system is very well ensconced throughout government due to its long history of dominating elected offices, it maintains its hold on government by largely unquestioned support of major voting blocks. If individuals that make up these voting blocks see that their interests are only being used to garner their election support so the officials who win elections can pay fealty to the diktats of the Washington power system (so they can win re-election and earn access to the congressional pension and have a future career as a lobbyist), they might begin questioning that support and decide the system does not deserve it.

What would happen if reliable members of the Christian Right and the Civil Rights Left actually looked at the fact that the Republicans and Democrats pursue the same agenda and decided to abandon those parties or create new ones to compete with the established order? I don’t see that having a new political organization that questions the wisdom of allowing the Federal Reserve Bank to create money to be a bad thing. Nor is it considered here to have some thoughtful dissent with America’s foreign entanglements, international military presence in 130 countries, or the amount of tax dollars that are spent on war matériel when the dollar is so horribly devalued.

Take it from one who has proudly abandoned the two party system for more than a decade; the withdrawal of my votes from Republicans or Democrats have not kept those two parties from pursuing what they tell you is best for this country and at no time during my self-imposed exile have members of those parties pursued any policy with which I am impressed. I don’t expect that my decision to vote for parties other than Democrat or Republican will diminish the control those parties have over public policy for quite some time. Therefore, for those who believe that the vote I keep from the, “lessor of two evils” will chase America down the road to ruin can be assured that the future of our country is cradled safely in the wise hands of Democrats and Republicans.

For now.

Change Government – Know What Officials Swear to Uphold

Change Government
Know What Officials Swear to Uphold

By Bob Strodtbeck

The Covenant News ~ July 1, 2008

Only one Biblical moral principle applies to the constitutional offices throughout America’s government. That principle is found in the Old Testament book, Deuteronomy, in chapter 23: 21-23, “When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the Lord your God will surely require it of you. However, if you refrain from vowing, it would not be sin in you. You shall be careful to perform what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God, what you have promised.”

Article VI of the US Constitution requires, “The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution;…” The Presidential oath requires, “…I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

For the respect of the secularist among us, Article VI also states, “…no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.” Consequently the judgment that God places upon one who violates a vow is a matter acceptance of Christian orthodoxy, and since all government officials in the US are required to vow to support the constitution, any Christian who violates the constitutional oath believes he/she is calling forth Divine judgment upon his/her loathsome soul.

Someone should tell the president.

Someone should also tell Dr. James Dobson.

Dr. Dobson recently challenged Democrat presidential nominee, Barrak Obama, for misapplying scripture and having a, “a fruitcake interpretation of the Constitution.” As for the scripture part, Dr. Dobson would have a hared time finding any American politician who has ever applied the Bible properly, and if Dr. Dobson is going to challenge Obama for his interpretation of the Constitution, he would do well to assault the entire Democrat-Republican political system—with the exception of Ron Paul.

Politically active Christians seem more preoccupied with using the power of government to enact their various agendas than they are with restoring the proper balance of powers that restrain illegitimate absorption of power. They have forgotten that the original temptation was that both Adam and Eve would have the knowledge and power of God if they ate of the tree of knowledge. Consequently, 21st century Christians have learned little more than first week humans.

America’s federal government, as established in the US Constitution, manages a union of states from which power to control or veto the federal government’s actions resides within the will of the state legislatures to do so. Consider that when the Constitution was ratified the state legislatures chose the Senate (Article I, Section 3). Through the Senate, the states subsequently held influence over impeachment (ibid.), ratification of treaties and trade agreements with foreign countries, approval of presidential appointees, and passage on the establishment of federal courts (Article II, Section 2).

Congressional districts and the rules for electing representatives are to be set by state legislatures. The Constitution even puts the state legislatures in control over how electors to the Electoral College are to be chosen (Article II, Section 1). Note need be taken, especially as Dr. Dobson is wringing his hands over the theological and constitutional views of Mr. Obama, that America has a President of the United States, not a President of the Citizens of the United States. Maybe the two year duration of the presidential campaign would be dramatically reduced if the state legislatures reasserted their control over the selection of electors to the Electoral College.

In fact, until 1909 the federal government operating revenues from state legislatures (leaving tariffs on imported goods the only source of direct taxation by the federal government), but then the 16th Amendment allowed the federal government to bypass our state capitals to take up residence in our pockets through the income tax.

Except for changes in the selection of the Senate, which came in 1913 by the 17th Amendment, and the adoption of the income tax, state legislatures can still hold a great amount of influence over what comes out of the federal government.

The quadrennial fear mongering over how either the next Republican or Democrat president is going to destroy the republic really pales in comparison with the real damage caused by the abject ignorance with which the voting public understands the law that is designed to restrict the power of government. With all due respect to Dr. Dobson, he could devote quite a bit of time informing his supporters and listeners to the text of the US Constitution and how the balance of powers between the states and federal government could help to limit the damage one individual president could cause to the nation and its culture.

Instead, it seems, anyone with a following uses their influence to support a bipolar political system that has converted a union of free states into little more than a populace to be fattened for a political slaughter every four years.

Dr. Dobson has done much to bring attention to the importance of marriage and families to the stability of this country, and his efforts are supported here. The strength of a marriage is no greater than the honor of husbands and wives for their vows—just as the commitment to public service of an American government officials is no better than their vow to, “…preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.”

I know that Dr. Dobson would not advocate that a couple enter into marriage without proper counseling on the commitment so involved. However his eagerness to critique the constitutional insight of one candidate without doing the same of the entire political system and eschew an in depth review of the Constitutional institutions and principles is akin to presiding over a wedding while allowing the groom to keep his mistress waiting in the parking lot with her engine running.

Christian Activism – The Results Of Christian Activism – Bigger Government, Deficits, Wars Without End

The Results of Christian Activism
Bigger Government, Deficits, Wars Without End

By Bob Strodtbeck

The Covenant News ~ May 12, 2008

“They have set up kings, but not by Me; They have appointed princes, but I did not know it. With their silver and gold they have made idols for themselves,…How long will they be incapable of innocence?…For they sow the wind, and they reap the whirlwind….” Hosea 8: 4, 5, 7

I have a great fascination for people who believe that because we live in America and that they claim to be Christian and that they can somehow wrap Biblical language around their decisions, actions, and attitudes, that all the indicators that foretell serious social, political, and economic disasters are suddenly going to disappear like a bad dream.

Or else we’re just going to be raptured and the tribulation will proceed without us.

To whit, might I borrow from a great guru from the athletic world, Lee Corso, by intoning, “Not so fast!!!”

It seems that so much of what we are facing as a country has come because those who claim to be Christian have not lived with integrity or demanded the same from people who have solicited their favor. Consider that, according to the 2000 census, 76.5 percent of the population considers itself to be Christian. Certainly a nation that has more than three quarters of its population claiming to believe essentially the same thing would not suffer from the widespread social conditions that violate those beliefs.

Usually when the terms “Christian” and “social conditions” are brought together, thoughts immediately turn to condemnations of sexual issues, such as extramarital sexual activity, abortion, homosexuality, divorce and the collapse of the American family. Although those phenomena have caused their share of problems, perhaps the greatest damage we Christians have caused to America’s culture has come through our materialism, greed and political myopia.

Consider what we have allowed to happen to America’s working middle class. Personal savings rates are hovering around negative territory, banks have allowed loan applicants to misrepresent their ability to pay back loans, credit card companies thrive on encouraging consumer debt, and the false promises of free trade and open immigration are destroying the ability of families to provide for their needs with their work.

Our national economic plight pales in comparison to the manipulation by the political system we, as Christians, have allowed against ourselves and our neighbors. Remember how the conservative Republicans promised to downsize government, balance budgets, and restore constitutional limits to the federal government way back in 1994? When Republicans won majorities in both the House and the Senate in 1994, the federal debt was $4.8 trillion, today, after 12 years of their tight-fisted, conservative control of government spending, the federal debt is $9.3 trillion. Much of the increase in spending has been driven by the War Against International Terrorism to make the world safe for democracy, but our support for that war has been cajoled through a web of lies that has resulted in the deaths of a growing number of our brothers and sisters.

How can those who claim to be Christian in full confidence ask God’s blessing on America when we, as a nation, consider labor to be little more than an entry on a corporate ledger to be reduced? Don’t we realize that as work becomes less and less valuable to employers that parents need to spend more and more time earning the wages that can sustain home, family, and children? Isn’t the work that makes the machines, appliances, and trinkets that allows modern life to be so comfortable as honorable as the management that devises methods to make those machines profitable? Does the advertising executive provide more to an economic system than the blue collar laborer who supplies the items he makes attractive?

And at what point did supporting liars in their quest for and to hold to power become a Christian mission? Can we at last admit that, in view of the historical record, the Contract with America, by the rhetorical mastermind Newt Gingrich, seems to be nothing more than a shell game to create a voting block and hold to it with promises of delivering on its agenda…someday? When did Christians measure their insight by the willingness to follow Utopian wishes built upon using military intimidation to establish a global hegemony?

America is facing serious political, economic, and cultural challenges and the 76 percent of the population that calls itself Christian cannot disavow its role in the turmoil. The first step just might be in admitting we’ve supported and taken part in the phenomena that have put us where we are and begin acting with integrity to what we claim to believe.

We’re All We’ve Got – Let’s Make The Most Of It

We’re All We’ve Got
Let’s Make The Most of It

By Bob Strodtbeck

The Covenant News ~ May 4, 2006

We are all we’ve got left.

When you look at the harsh realities of America’s major institutions that influence government and the economy one must come to the harsh reality that America’s tax paying citizens are being left to fend for themselves.

Consider, for a moment, the American political system. Supposedly it is made up of two competing groups; the Republicans and Democrats. The mainstream voter believes that the two parties are scrutinized and held in check by a free press (although most voters believe that the press unfairly represents one of the two parties they support).

What has been avoiding scrutiny, however, is the fact that election campaigning has become a very lucrative and continual industry. In 2006 Republicans and Democrats spent more than $2 billion on the congressional mid-term campaigns and the 2008 presidential campaign started almost immediately after the mid-term ballots were counted. Interestingly the bulk of campaign dollars were spent with the very same media outlets for which news reporters work. Is it possible that those reporters profit from the campaign revenues their employers charge Democrat and Republican candidates? Do the owners of media outlets profit from political advertising revenues? When a media company faces a decision to broadcast the truth or assure that it maintains profitability, is it unreasonable to think that the company will consider truth to be a hindrance to capitalistic gain? Isn’t profit from the free enterprise system the most important truth to preserve as the foundation of our freedom?

The profit motive, after all, is what made this country great.

Before we think that the election campaign industry is a tidy little enterprise between Republicans, Democrats, and the press, it is worthwhile to ponder the source of campaign revenues that are spent with the media. They generally come from the “soft money” corporate contributions that are shoveled into the party in the hundreds of thousands. These same corporate contributors also buy the media ads that keep broadcast outlets in business. Simply put, the three estates of government and the fourth estate of the press are wrapped up in a tidy little package by global capitalists that are continually on the prowl for ever cheaper labor markets to help them grow their profits.

The Global corporate elite and America’s political system no longer see any value in common working Americans. Our expectations that our efforts be valued to the point that they will support our families are anathema to global corporations that once made our land their home. The politicians who buy our votes with the skimmed profits from those corporations will not sacrifice their comfort to serve and protect their oaths of office or the future of the country.

Corporate executives and political celebrities value their wealth, power and status, but they do not value us. They don’t value our families, homes, communities, or even the greatness or opportunities that once defined America. If they did they would not be devoting so much wealth and energy to leave us in the search for new wealth, power, and status in other countries. If our elected representatives had the slightest regard for our American heritage they would not be allowing the destruction of our industry, economy, culture, or identity.

The only ones who care about us is us. Fortunately, though, America was built to be the envy of the world without needing international corporate executives selling us out to find slaves in destitute hell holes. Neither did politicians on the take did raise us up to be admired by the world as a “shining city on a hill”.

We did it—the common working people who only wanted to provide for our own. We are being left behind by those so blessed to have been raptured to the paradise of global wealth and power.

We did it before.

When and where are we going to start the process of doing it again?

Republicans – Dear Republicans, Please Save The Republic From Your Heroism

Dear Republicans
Please Save The Republic From Your Heroism

By Bob Strodtbeck

The Covenant News ~ April 18, 2006

Dear Republicans,

Before I make my appeal for your united stand to preserve the union, please allow me to give you a review of my background before you label me as a liberal, communist or subversive. You see, I spent most of my life supporting your campaigns and your stated principles of governing, but left your party out of frustration with what I considered to be your dereliction of duty during the Clinton presidency.

My disenchantment with your party was not caused by your inability to properly deal with the ineptitude of the Clinton Administration, but goes back to how you choked off and killed the populist movement that grew out of the “Contract with America”. During those heady days of 1994-5 when Republican candidates catapulted to congressional majorities and earned control of a majority of state legislatures I believed that conservative thought would begin dissipating power out of Washington, D.C., and begin restoring a federal balance of powers between states and the national government that was intended by the US Constitution. To this end I gravitated toward the message of Pat Buchanan that the American government should serve American citizens, protect the standard of living of the American working middle class, use tariffs to require foreign manufacturers to support the economic system from which they desired to profit, and develop a non interventionist foreign policy that would guard American security without obligating the country to participate in international intrigues.

Those positions, however, were considered to be anathema to party regulars that saw the end of the Cold War to be an opportunity for America to assert itself as the “indispensable nation”. I witnessed your party, in response to Buchanan’s emergence as a front-runner for the 1996 GOP presidential nomination, gather all its resources to choke off the movement he championed and prop up the moribund candidacy of Bob Dole which was little more than a forfeit to the re-election campaign to President Clinton.

Although I did not disassociate myself from the party after the treachery you committed marginalize us “peasants with pitchforks”, I put one foot squarely out the door. I began looking to the vast horizon with the botched impeachment trial of Bill Clinton. I began my stride when there was no indignation over his surprise attack of Bosnia on the eve of the impeachment vote. I finally turned my back on your big tent on April 22, 2000, when the US government conducted the armed kidnapping of Elian Gonzales and the GOP hardly raised a whimper of protest.

I am, at this time, willing to swallow my contempt for the realization that your party, from the highest levels to the newest precinct walker, holds the greatest potential to rescue America from potential and rapid destruction. Only Republicans can appeal to President Bush and his advisers that taking military action against Iran is not in the best interests of this country without appearing partisan or accused of liberal, communistic motivations.

Regardless of what you believe, dear Republicans, of America’s invincibility, the invasion of Iraq has exposed some serious chinks in the American armor. Due to America’s foreign military adventures annual federal deficits have crossed the $400 billion mark throughout the Bush Presidency. The bulk of the resulting $9 trillion federal debt is coming under increasing control of the Chinese government. China, by the way, is managing a rapidly industrializing economy, thanks to corporations moving their production facilities there from America. This industrial growth is making the major owner of American debt a competitor with the US for construction resources and oil. If China wants to gain a competitive edge for those resources, it can easily gain it by calling in the chits it is holding against America’s currency.

Nor is one treasonously cynical to suggest that American society is ill suited to handle the sacrifices required to expand the Iraqi war to another country. America has a consumption-based economy that demands spending. Large-scale war demands saving, production, and rationing. According to the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis, the American public last year had a savings rate of negative0.5 percent. Furthermore America has lost manufacturing jobs for the past 42 months running through March 2006.

Please don’t overlook the emerging social conflict that is coming over immigration and employment throughout the nation. If you would review Civil War history you will find that the biggest riot of the war was the New York Draft Riot which drove New York City to the brink of destruction at the onset of the Civil War during July, 1863. The riot was caused by wage competition between labor pools and the demands on residents to meet the call of a nation going to war. Today the immigration debate focuses on wage competition between labor pools and the demands on American citizens that are being required to support the needs of a nation in a boundless war.

I am well aware that contemplating an American assault on Iran satisfies a noble faith that America desires to act preemptively to rescue the world from nuclear weapons proliferation among madmen. Consider, for a moment, though, that we invaded and occupied Iraq to liberate it from violence and oppression. We removed a leader that destroyed cities and tortured political prisoners so as to remove him as a global threat with Weapons of Mass Destruction and connections with Islamic terrorists. In the process of delivering this mission the world has discovered Iraq had no WMD or capabilities to produce them, nor were there were no clear connections between Saddam Hussein and Islamic terrorists. Furthermore, before the American invasion, Iraq under Saddam did not suffer from any terrorist attacks, and pursuant to victory in the War Against International Terrorism America has found it necessary to destroy cities and torture prisoners. This is not a record that inspires confidence among us doubters and makes you who are truly faithful to the occupation appear detached from reality.

Subsequently I am appealing to you, my former partisan cohorts, to please consider the consequences of the last decade of “conservative” government to the nation, of the Iraqi “cakewalk” to America’s international standing and credibility, and then ask the head of your party, President Bush, to restrain himself from rescuing the United States from the wickedness of tyranny and the threat of evil. I am not sure that the nation will be able to survive any more of his, or your party’s heroic acts.

Principles – Bush’s Influence On Principled Voters – Is To Guide Them To Abandon Their Principles

Bush’s Influence on Principled Voters
Is to Guide Them to Abandon Their Principles

By Bob Strodtbeck

The Covenant News ~ December 28, 2005

Christianity is not, nor can it be, utopian. This is due simply to the fact that Christianity is a belief that humans, both as individuals and a species, are separated from God through a sinful nature. According to holy writ the wages of sin is death and, in their mortal state, humans require salvation from eternal judgment through blood sacrifice. That blood sacrifice was paid once and for all by Jesus’ death on the cross.

Not only was the mission of Christ offered by God as a remedy from the blight of human nature, but the entire Bible is a record of failure brought by human works. This flawed record begins in Eden. It was amplified in the flood of Noah and continued into Babel. It followed Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as they attempted to put their stamp on God’s plan for establishing his own chosen race.

God’s efforts to provide a select land for His chosen people were further inhibited by the disobedience, idolatry and cowardice of those subjects. After God allowed them to occupy the land chosen for them, they proceeded to neglect the commands God made to occupy their land, subjected themselves to continual war, allowed their leaders to indulge in various self aggrandizing pursuits and devote the country to destructive war and alliances.

It did not take many years for Israel to pass from God’s protection to a divided and prostrate gathering of people living in a land ripe for the taking by any and every nation that could dispatch an army. Along the way those who were born into God’s chosen bloodline were busy violating his moral restrictions, killing or torturing those who spoke for Him, and finding ways to make themselves appealing to their various captors.

Later, according to those who kept the records of the early Christian Church, followers of the new way established by Jesus Christ were troubled by greed, heresy, carnality, and factionalism. All the while those attracted to the new beliefs were persecuted as a threat to the various governments and economic systems that demanded absolute fealty.

Consequently, the heaven so sought for by all of us is, according to the Bible, only available after we die–or until God returns to cleanse the world with His final judgment. Utopians, however, believe that perfection can be achieved during this existence if only we apply the right formula. Such a belief is not dissimilar to the Serpent’s appeal to Eve in the Garden that, to paraphrase, we can all be as gods.

It, therefore, should be of no small concern to Christian supporters of President Bush that he has verbalized utopian faith in the purifying influences of democracy. “If the peoples of (the Middle East) are permitted to choose their own destiny,” so declared the President at the 20th anniversary celebration of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) on October 6, “and advance by their own energy and by their participation as free men and women, then the extremists will be marginalized, and the flow of violent radicalism to the rest of the world will slow, and eventually end.”

The President’s trust in the salvific influences of democracy is, by no means, limited to a single speech this past October. During his inaugural address this past January, which was little more than an ode to freedom, he declared, “So, it is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world.” More recently, on December 14 at The International Trade Center in Washington, as part of a concentrated PR campaign to rally public support for the war in Iraq he said, “I strongly believe a democratic Iraq is a crucial part of our strategy to defeat the terrorists, because only democracy can bring freedom and reconciliation to Iraq, and peace to this troubled part of the world.”

For Christians to embrace President Bush in spite of his unrepentant faith in an utopian world founded upon democratic practices is a clear departure from Biblical and historical fact as well as from Christian doctrine regarding human depravity. The President’s democratic utopianism is not his only departure from the application of Christian restraint on the exercise of power. His decision to invade Iraq was preceded by a public campaign to persuade the country to support it. The moral quandary this should cause Christians is that the campaign was based upon false intelligence that some have claimed proves administrative incompetence at best and bold prevarication at worse.

Government and military officials, under the President’s authority, have violated laws regarding torture, leaking the names of covert intelligence agents, and the issuance of unauthorized wiretaps on American citizens. Furthermore the agenda of the President and his party not only violates Constitutional limits the power of the federal government, but defies principles the president’s party claimed to support during its march to win governing majorities in Congress and in most of the state legislatures throughout the country.

Note need be made of the fact that although candidates supported by Christian voters are clearly in an ascendancy in America’s political power structures, Christian influence over the culture seems to be receding to a low ebb. Families continue to break apart under moral and financial strain, personal debt is spiraling out of control, and non marital sexual conduct is the national pastime. In the meantime the government that has been established by Christian activism is accelerating the deficit spending that is ruining the currency, and embracing trade, labor, and immigration policies that is destroying America’s middle class families and work ethic.

During his aforementioned speech to the NED, President Bush also declared, “By standing for the hope and freedom of others, we make our own freedom more secure.” Someone should make the president aware that both our freedom and security are under continual threat of humans who fall to the temptation to use their power for personal purposes.

Pro-Life Movement – What’s Wrong With the Pro-Life Movement

What’s Wrong With
the Pro-Life Movement

By Bob Strodtbeck

The pro-life movement defends the principle of protecting the right-to-life for all people. As America’s post-modern culture attracts more individuals with the allure of convenience and relativism, the pro-life principle covers an increasing number of individuals from embryos created in a laboratory to incapacitated geriatrics in nursing homes.

The national debate over abortion has kept a high profile for most of the nearly three decades that Americans have been erroneously told that killing babies in the womb is protected by the U.S. Constitution. The focus of the debate has been on the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, which asserts a penumbra right to privacy in the Bill of Rights entitles women to access abortion procedures.

Over the years that the national debate over abortion has been measured by polls and propaganda America has been dragged into a relativistic culture that endorses killing babies in the womb and applauds scientists creating babies in the lab. Meanwhile governments are increasingly subjected to the desires of wealthy international corporations or the whims of unrestrained judicial branches which show an interest in both.

It is not the advocates of abortion rights that have forwarded this lurch into social destruction, however, but the pro-lifers who have wasted 30 years pursuing an agenda rather than fighting for principles that have defined American liberty.

The U.S. Constitution establishes multi-leveled government with defined responsibilities so the nation would not be subjected to the whims of power-lusting individuals. This balance of powers is not limited to the branches of national government outlined in the Constitution, but includes the state governments that are referred to in Article I, Section 3, clause one (the selection of the Senate was originally under the authority of state legislatures) and in the tenth amendment.

Roe v. Wade did not so much create a right out of thin air, but was an usurpation of state legislative authority by the federal courts. This expansion of federal judicial power is now so broad that any state or local law can be struck down by judicial fiat. The power grab by the courts is a clear violation of its limits to hear only “…cases in law and equity, arising under this (the U.S.) Constitution….” This means the federal courts have the authority to hear cases regarding laws written by the U.S. Congress and enforced by the president.

The pro-life movement, however, has been preoccupied with attempting to influence the national government to support its agenda when it needed to educate the general public of the dangers of a central government taking power unto itself. In pursuit of this unfruitful strategy, pro-lifers are busy raising support for the reelection campaign of President Bush in spite of his lukewarm action on pro-life principles.

Pro-life support for Mr. Bush is creating more threats to the structure of constitutional government than even Roe. Mr. Bush is an unflinching internationalist who seems to have no problems eliminating American borders and converting the military into a rapid deployment force for political and economic agendas that are poorly defined and executed without a shred of constitutional support. His agenda focuses on unconstitutional expansions of federal authority into education, medical practice, and church missions. He has further expanded executive control over the use of lands that was initiated through executive orders written by Bill Clinton and his lust for fast track trading authority for trade agreements has subverted congressional oversight in relations with trade partners.

Pro-lifers are willing to accept these abuses of power because Mr. Bush will use their politically correct clichés at opportune moments. This concession on the part of pro-lifers, though, is in absolute defiance of the major principle that the framers of the Constitution used to develop legal limits on federal office holders – that is that human nature is self-serving and continually seeking personal aggrandizement.

The pro-life movement seems to be committed to gauging its influence by endorsements it gets from national political celebrities, but time has proven that those platitudes won’t stop babies from being killed. The movement’s support for the current president might even help to finish the work of destroying the U.S. Constitution that was so hideously forwarded by Roe.

Sin – Sin Has Consequences – God is displeased with entire nation

Sin Has Consequences

By Jason Storms

New Orleans now is abortion free. New Orleans now is Mardi Gras free. New Orleans now is free of Southern Decadence and the sodomites, the witchcraft workers, false religion — it’s free of all of those things now. God simply, I believe, in His mercy purged all of that stuff out of there — and now we’re going to start over again.” –Bill Shanks, pastor of New Covenant Fellowship of New Orleans.

I am writing the following as one who has lived for several years in New Orleans, ministering on the streets and in the community, and as one who has family and friends in the city who have lost much.

In recent years there has been a deliberate attempt by many Christian leaders to improve the public image of Christianity. While this is not entirely a bad thing, at times it can go too far. An example of this is the way that natural disasters and similar tragedies are immediately declared to be innocent of God’s handiwork by so many spokesmen for the Christian community. In some cases I am sure that this is so; accidents happen; God often times simply allows laws of cause and effect to take their course. But, to say such disaster is “out of character for God” is not only inaccurate but is not doing Christianity nor it’s Author any favors.

Noah experienced a move of God in his day when the Lord wiped out the entire population of the earth in the flood. Sodom and Gomorrah were annihilated by fire and brimstone rained down from above. Those who would claim that God wouldn’t cause such a thing as Hurricane Katrina, needn’t dig too deep to find contradiction in their worldview. If you do not believe the Bible, so be it, then let this be the point of our contention, but to say that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who has revealed Himself through His Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Scriptures, is not capable within the bounds of His character to do such a thing is the height of absurdity. “The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”.

It is clear to me as I have traveled extensively all over this nation doing ministry on the streets, that the city of New Orleans is the most depraved in all our society. The city epitomizes the pomp, pride, and hedonistic godlessness that is becoming the character of our nation. Biloxi and Gulfport, on the Mississippi coast, are modeling their cities after much of New Orleans. Their gambling casinos, associated with organized crime, prostitution and exploitation bring an estimated $500,000 in taxes each day for the state! Those casinos do not exist today.

Bourbon Street, the most famous street in New Orleans, full of bars and strip clubs, is a dirty and disgusting cesspool which engulfs its inhabitants in the foulest odors of stale beer and urine. It attracts people from all over the world, culminating in the Mardi Gras celebration, a week of drunkenness and revelry. One of the highlights of Mardi Gras is the exchanging of plastic beads for girls to expose their breasts. A very common scene on Bourbon Street, not just during Mardi Gras, but any night of the week, is a crowd of drunk men surrounding a woman chanting “show your tits” until the girl exposes her breasts to the crowd. Over a million people come into New Orleans for Mardi Gras every year, many of whom are college students who take these obscene practices back to their own cities and towns. Like a cancer New Orleans has spread her disease to much of our nation.

“Girls Gone Wild”, as well as a host of similar offshoots, has its origins in New Orleans.

Southern Decadence, one of the largest and most vulgar “gay” celebrations in the world, finds its home in New Orleans every Labor Day weekend (interestingly enough, Katrina made landfall just 2 days before Decadence was scheduled to begin), as the city rolls out the red carpet to prostitute itself for the revenue generated by such depravity. In fact, a huge percentage of the city’s income stems from its “parties” in the French Quarter every week.

The city’s political system has been well known to be one of the most corrupt in the nation for years; this has been well documented with numerous city and state officials currently behind bars.

New Orleans has been the nation’s murder capitol multiple times. Thus far this year, they were again the nation’s leader in murders. Along with this are epidemic problems with drug addiction, crime and poverty.

Voodoo, witchcraft, and the occult are popular attractions in the city. A major annual music concert titles itself the “Voodoo Festival”.

New Orleans is a city full of crime, violence, corruption and perversion that influences the world with its seductive allurements. It is a city where the awful fruit of sin is keenly evident with the crime, poverty and brokenness. Yet, they continue to suppress the truth in their unrighteousness; unwilling to repent, unwilling to humble themselves and turn away from these destructive things.

The damage that was created by Katrina is nothing compared to the damage that sin in all its fullness has been creating in New Orleans and through its influence every day, year after year. When we see a young couple gruesomely killed by a drunk driver who thought it was ok to “get wasted” and drive home, I see Bourbon Street and the flood waters. When I hear of a family being ripped apart because of the sexual addiction of an unfaithful husband who thought “a little fun” was ok, I think of the French Quarter and the flood waters. When I see a young kid get shot to death while “slangin” crack on his corner because poverty and crime are all he has known, I think of New Orleans and I think of the flood waters. When I see a teenage girl going into a clinic where a doctor is ripping out of her womb, piece by piece a little human being created in Gods image, thinking it is her “choice”, I think of New Orleans and I think of the flood waters. When will our nation awake? When will we hear the cry of our Lord to “Love God with all our hearts, and to Love our neighbor as ourselves”?

Sin has consequences. This was true yesterday, it is true today and it will be true tomorrow. God has shown His mighty hand and His displeasure, not just to New Orleans but to our entire nation. Will we hear, is the great question of this hour.

Education, Liberty, and the Bible

Education, Liberty, and the Bible

By Martin G. Selbrede

The Covenant News ~ February 15, 2009

The turning point: the statist takeover of education
April 20, 1837 represents the end of Americans’ commitment to self-government and education as the shift to centralized state education was set in motion. That day, Horace Mann, the father of public education, became the first secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Education, the first state-supported school system financed by property taxes. He later became secretary of the federal Department of Education and pushed to make education compulsory, humanistic, and insulated from parental influence and control.

Correcting the record on education
There is no compulsory education in Singapore, but their school attendance is 98% and their aggregate literacy shames America’s. Prior to compulsory education in America, 100 million sets of Noah Webster’s Speller were sold in the years after 1783 (this was also a time when scholarships for the poor were pervasive), and the six-volume Eclectic Readers by W.H. McGuffey sold 120 million sets during the decades after 1836. These are astonishing numbers given the US population during that era. Non-compulsory education once gave our nation its highest literacy rates, as documented not only by Alexis de Tocqueville, but also by the study Thomas Jefferson commissioned DuPont to conduct in 1800, which showed national literacy standing at 99.7% (compared to today’s 80% figure for high school graduates, which doesn’t even include the one million dropouts produced every year).

Educational decline
The long downward slide of SAT scores began in 1965. By 1966 the average SAT score had fallen 11 points to 467. By 1970 it fell to 460, and by 1977 it was down to 429. The Boston Globe (8/29/1976) called it “a prolonged and broadscale decline unequaled in US history” and said, “The downward spiral … shows no sign of bottoming out … Educators … have tried to ignore or discount the significance of the decline. At a national conference of school administrators (the decline) was alluded to as the ‘big lie’ being perpetrated against education.” Not surprisingly, SAT scoring was “renormalized” in the mid-1990s so that what was once a score of 450 is now listed anywhere between 500 and 550. William J. Bennett pointed out, “Our worst subject is history. People have heard ad nauseum … the scores of our reading and math. Our kids actually do better in reading and math than they do in history, American history particularly.” In contrast, Christian and home school students excel in reading and math and also understand American history and their place in it.

Is it really a matter of adequate funding?
The myth persists that if parents want better state schools, this can be achieved by increased funding. However, many of the worst schools in the United States receive the largest amount of per-student dollars. The quality of education does not correlate with money spent on it. The reality is that private education is cheaper by far than state education – $4,800/yr vs. $10,000/yr per student on average. Between 1965 and 1968, the Title One program spent a record-breaking $3 billion to compensate for the performance of 6 million disadvantaged children, with the result being that the gap between them and their classmates only worsened.

What about school vouchers?
Because education is a parental function, not a state function (see final section), tax dollars should not be used to pay for it. There are at least eighteen private voucher foundations operating, which have increased supply when demand has risen. When government-funded vouchers were revoked in Milwaukee by court order several weeks into the 1995-96 school year, several million dollars were privately collected in less than a week to allow students to remain in private institutions: proof that private vouchers work. Had American schools been privatized in 1997, the resulting tax cut ($316 billion) would have dwarfed the private vouchers needed ($16 billion), which amounted to less than what Americans gave churches ($100 billion) or higher education ($31 billion). Privatizing schools in 1997 would have saved $316 billion in taxes, released $16 billion for private vouchers, allowing Americans to keep $300 billion of their own money to build their families as they saw fit. Privatization fortifies education and families and allows tax cuts, which are politically more attractive than the tax increases called for by the NEA.

Why public schools avoid competition
If a private school performed like a public schools, it would go out of business. That’s why state schools seek illegitimate protections to prop up their eroding student base. Recent attempts to criminalize home schools in California were temporarily successful until overthrown on appeal in 2008. During trials in the 1980s, church schools were not permitted to enter into evidence the test results of its students on the state’s own tests – the students out-performed state school students by several years. State schools are incapable of competing fairly in the market place; they can only play dirty.

Accreditation & quality of education
The alleged intention of private school regulation is to insure quality of education. But this is simply not true. The state has never been interested in quality. Accreditation is a ruse used by statists to maintain control. H.L. Mencken stated that “The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed a standard citizenry, to put down dissent and originality.” Public school teachers are required to pass a state approved training program in order to acquire a state license, and this training lacks all elements that established and maintained our strong, free and prosperous society for two centuries: unrevised history, Biblical law, Biblical/Austrian economics & sound money. “Parents rebel against … humanistic state schools. Christian Schools are started and flourish, but … voices … promote the need for accreditation, and they seek the approval of the same corrupt system they abandoned” (Rushdoony). It is enlightening to realize there is no contract between the public and the state concerning educational quality: neither public schools nor their teachers can be sued for delivering an abysmal education: they’re protected because they serve “a compelling state interest,” and such cases will always be dismissed.

Compulsory state-run education & parental forfeiture
The highest percentage of Christian School attendance is from the ranks of the children of public school teachers, whom the Wall Street Journal calls “informed consumers.” Samuel Blumenfeld wrote in 1994 that, “a state school is not a fitting instrument of a parent’s concern, only a parent’s indifference.” Herbert Spencer said state education leads to “annulling all parental responsibilities altogether.” He criticized John Stuart Mill’s distrust of parents: “this alleged incompetency of the people has been the reason assigned for all state interferences whatsoever.” The federal government’s Goals 2000 and Outcome Based Education promotes further intrusion into family life. John Taylor Gatto, New York State Teacher of the Year, exposed the underlying parental forfeiture: “No middle-class parents I have ever met actually believe that their kid’s school is one of the bad ones. Not one single parent in twenty-six years of teaching. That’s amazing, and probably the best testimony to what happens to families when mother and father have been well-schooled themselves.” Most parents take for granted that the state will educate their kids, without questioning what will be taught.

Control of education: key to the culture war
The control of education by the state has a long, ominous history. Emperor Julian of Rome acted against the Christians by decreeing “the classics could only be taught by the pagans, which meant the introduction of pagan teachers into Christian schools. The curriculum had to include anti-Christian works. One such required text was an anti-Christian and forged Acts of Pilate, required reading for all schools” (Rushdoony). Humanists regard the classroom as the place to wage war, as John Dunphy admits: “The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new – the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with all its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism, resplendent in its promise of a world in which the never realized Christian ideal of ‘love thy neighbor’ will finally be achieved.”

Do public schools promote liberty or merely control?
The U.S. Supreme Court, in Pierce v. Society of Sisters (1925), held that “The fundamental theory of liberty upon which all governments in this Union repose excludes any general power of the State to standardize its children by forcing them to accept instruction from public teachers only. The child is not the mere creature of the state.” Albert Jay Nock indicted how state education teaches “a superstitious servile reverence for a sacrosanct State,” because such schools were “a leveling agency, prescribing uniform modes of thought, belief, conduct, social deportment, diet, recreation, hygiene; an … inquisitorial body for the enforcement of these prescriptions.” In 1948, Frank Chodorov asked, “Can the tax-paid teacher even hint at the immorality of taxation?” He concluded that “in the full sense of the word, a free school is one that has no truck with the state, via its taxing powers…. What is known as ‘free education’ is the least free of all, for it is a state-owned institution … and cannot possibly be separated from political control…. Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin did not abolish the public school, but, rather, favored it as a necessary integral of their regimes.” In 1970, Frank L. Field said of state schools, “I am proposing: (1) that powerful control over individual behavior is not necessarily evil or antidemocratic; (2) that we already employ great controlling power in education; but (3) that we do so very ineffectively because we try to hide the fact even from ourselves; and finally (4) that when we clearly understand the need for power we will gradually require less of it, because its application will be overt, direct, timely, and hence necessarily more efficient.”

Education for free individuals or state drones?
Sweden’s Prime Minister addressed Swedish children thus: “You don’t go to school to achieve anything personally, but to learn how to function as members of a group.” Roland Huntford said of Sweden that “immense pains are taken to round up the independent and the unwilling.” The old totalitarians used physical coercion to control men; the new totalitarians use state schools for this. As N. M. Butler affirms, “the state is the completion of the life of the individual, and without it he would not wholly live. To inculcate that doctrine should be an aim of all education in a democracy.” Newton Edwards agrees: “Public education … is of government. Power to maintain a system of schools is an attitude of government … as is the police power or the power to administer or to maintain military forces or to tax… The primary function of the public school … is not to confer benefits upon the individual …; the school exists as a state institution because the very existence of civil society demands it.” It would be more honest to say the existence of totalitarian society demands it.

The biggest lobby in Washington: the NEA
The NEA is a huge political force. In 1967, NEA executive secretary Sam Lambert said the “NEA will become a political power second to no other special interest group … with power unmatched by any other organized group in the nation.” Dean Harold Benjamin’s 1950 Report on the Enemy, delivered to the NEA in 1950, proves the organization sees anyone opposed to state-controlled education to be the enemy. By 1984, the NEA’s enemies list grew to book size and included virtually every organization favoring capitalism, Christianity, and/or conservatism.

State schools simply cannot be fixed
Well-meaning activists, unaware of the decay inherent in a state-run system, think of public schools as institutions worthy to be rescued. This is a fiction that plays into the hands of statists anxious to retain power over the education of our children. The state cannot reform education because state involvement is part of the problem. The only way to ensure the liberty that only a well-educated citizenry can maintain is to return to the home/Christian school system that gave us the 99.7% national literacy rate that America enjoyed in 1803.

What does the Bible say about education?
The fact that many Christian pastors place their children in state schools, setting an example their flocks might follow, does not speak well for our situation in America. Deut. 6:6-7 makes clear that education is not only a parental function, it must be anchored in the Word and Law of God. This is what “raising your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4) means, a command also directed to the father. In education, children are to be “under the hands of the father” (I Chron. 25:3,6). The phrase “to pass one’s children through the fire to Molech” (Lev. 18:21, etc.) refers to devoting one’s children to the state, to acknowledging the priority of the state, as Rome later insisted. The faithful of all ages reject such claims, proclaiming that “

Judgment, Politics, and the Bible

Judgment, Politics, and the Bible

The judgment of God: not optional in history

God is the governor among the nations (Psalm 22:27-28); therefore, He is “a God of judgment” (Isa. 30:18) when man breaks His Law. When God does act, it is always in terms of His Law, His eternal standard: “Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail will sweep away the refuge of lies…” (Isa. 28:17).

God’s judgments – misunderstood
God’s rule over the earth doesn’t operate according to our expectations. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isa. 55:9). Scripturally, judgment is treated as a “strange work” and “strange act” of God (Isa. 28:21) – strange because there should be no need for judgment since God provides adequate opportunity to repent, and because God must assemble extraordinary instruments of judgment (e.g., He is said to “hire a razor” when He calls upon the Assyrians to come in judgment against Israel in Isa. 7:20).

God’s judgments – always certain
God’s graciousness in delaying His judgment often gives rise to the mocking question, “Where is the God of judgment?” (Mal. 2:17). God’s forbearance is intended to provide opportunity to obey His laws. In Rev. 2:21, God says of Jezebel that “I gave her space to repent of her fornication, but she repented not.” Too often forbearance is treated with contempt and misinterpreted as license to continue in disobedience. “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil” (Eccl. 8:11). God waited five centuries before dropping the hammer on Israel. God warned His people (Lev. 26:33-36) that if they violated the land Sabbath law requiring the fields to go unworked every seventh year, the nation would be cast out and scattered and “the land shall enjoy her Sabbaths.” When Israel began to violate these ordinances, God didn’t appear to follow through with judgment. But a suspended sentence isn’t an acquittal. In 2 Chron. 36:21 the long-promised deportation (to Babylon and beyond) finally occurred and the emptied land rested for seventy years – the amount of Sabbaths that Israel had refused to honor over the course of half a millennium. God is never mocked.

God’s judgments – our prerogative to invoke or deflect
In an era when in countless churches “the law is slacked” (Hab. 1:4) by contemporary Christian theology, where the “great things of His Law are regarded as a strange thing” (Hos. 8:12) by pastors, where His Law is displaced by the “teaching of the precepts of men” (Mark 7:7-9, Matt. 15:9), we confront the warning of Psalm 119:126 – “It is time for Thee, O Lord, to work: for they have made void Thy Law.” Although Christians ought not to loosen even the least of the jots and tittles of God’s commandments or to teach men so (Matt. 5:19), many Christians today do exactly that. National decline inevitably follows such a profound spiritual decline and God begins His work of judgment in an unexpected place: “the house of God” (1 Pet. 4:17). We must recover the faith of America’s founding fathers, who understood the Scriptures and the unceasing relevance of the entirety of God’s Law far better than our current paperback-ridden, sound-bite-happy generation. If we apply godly judgment to ourselves today, God won’t have to place a heavy hand upon us tomorrow.

The fear of God: not optional in politics

If we’re timid before men, we show they count more than God does in our hearts: “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6). The left-right political paradigm propagated by the mainstream media creates a false choice for voters while feeding our fear of man. The Biblical paradigm tends in a completely different direction. Fear of man perpetuates itself because man-fearing people instinctively know deep down that the Lord is not on their side. In Christ’s day, the people were up in arms about their slavery to Rome but didn’t care about their slavery to sin. Although sin is the true enslaver of souls (every other alleged enslavement is false and perpetuates the environmental fallacy and satanic determinism), they couldn’t see that Jesus came to save them from it because they were focused on political freedom. When Jesus got in the way of their faulty focus, they killed Him.

Fear of God – relevance to society: Fear of God that is deep, true, and convicting entails a regard for all of His laws and commandments. It results in a society of justice, peace, sound money, diligence, productivity, and blessing. Conversely, “the fear of man bringeth a snare” (Prov. 29:25) and leads to a society based on statist means of salvation and deliverance. To exchange the fear of God for the fear of man is to transfer total power from God (Whose Law maximizes our liberty) to the state (which must minimize our liberty to make good on its promises: to provide total protection, the state needs total power). The fear of man shifts the basis of societal order from moral to regulatory, with the result being totalitarian socialism. This is part of the curse of “making flesh (human means) our arm (strength)” (Jer. 17:5). Only the fear of God leads to boldness before men and true freedom. A God-fearing people will not tolerate the encroaching totalitarianism we are realizing in modern America.

Fear of God – relevance to voting: One of the texts routinely preached upon and used in Election Sermons in colonial America was 2 Sam. 23:2-3. “The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and His word was in my tongue. The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.” This was not David’s personal opinion. This was an imperative laid down by God Himself for all men and women who govern. While early Americans understood that God forbids putting anyone into power who doesn’t rule in the fear of God, today’s voters are more fearful of “wasting a vote” than they are of God and His clear command. As Jesus said, “I will forewarn ye whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear Him” (Luke 12:5).

Fear of God – relevance to justice: Above anything else, God requires His people to do justice (Deut. 16:20). Fear of man dislodges a person’s commitment to justice because it always entails a rejection of God. Since God loves justice (Ps. 11:7, Ps. 33:5), injustice leads to God’s judgment. Justice done by a political ruler is proportionate to that ruler’s fear of God. Conversely, acts of injustice are done in proportion to a ruler’s fear of man. Therefore, an electorate’s fear of man is its own punishment due to the injustice the people ultimately suffer at the hands of ungodly rulers they put into office, as well as the people’s ensuing enslavement to continue acting upon their fear of man. A man-fearing electorate incites God’s judgment not only on themselves, but also on the man-fearing rulers they elect. The “unjust judge” of Luke 18:1-8 “did not fear God” and denied the widow the justice she sought from him. The officers of state are to act as ministers of God (Rom. 13:4), exercising specific limited powers delegated by God – the ministry of justice. If they keep God’s laws, they share in God’s authority over human life (Ps. 82:6). If judges and rulers fail to keep God’s laws, perverting justice, they “shall die like men” (Ps. 82:7). God Himself will bring judgment and capital punishment on a nation that despises His Law.

The Law of God: not optional for liberty

America – God’s Laws abandoned
The spilling of innocent blood in the tragic abortion industry is just the tip of the iceberg of the many transgressions of God’s Law that America will be judged for. God has laid out how a society must be run in His Word. All of His laws are important, and our founding fathers would be aghast that modern America is in continual violation of most of them. For example, our forefathers knew that God’s Word says if His people obey His statutes with regard to citizen-administered relief of poverty (annualized to 3.4% of one’s income – Deut. 14:28-29, 16:12-15), “there would be no poor among you” (Deut. 15:4). But “hardness of heart” (Deut. 15:7) and refusal to obey God’s statute have led to the transfer of social responsibility to the state so that America’s welfare state has swollen to immense size without ending poverty at all (see Taxation paper). Our forefathers would be appalled at how many parents today disregard God’s mandate to raise their children in the fear of God (Eph. 6:4), and instead give them to America’s state-run humanistic government schools during their critical formative years. God’s judgment on the nation for this particular lawlessness has been multi-faceted: increasing property taxes and a shameful perpetual decline in morality and academics (see Education paper). Our Christian founding fathers wrote safeguards into the Constitution against the unbiblical fiat currency we currently use, which God declares to be an abomination to Him (Prov. 11:1) (see papers on Taxation and Economic Crises). America’s founders who embraced a biblical foreign policy of nonintervention (Deut. 17:6) would be fearing God’s judgment today regarding pre-emptive military campaigns (2 Chron. 35:20-25) that harm noncombatants (see National Defense paper). Neglecting God’s Word and entrusting the state to handle poverty, education, or anything not expressly assigned to it by God’s Word brings God’s curse. Jer. 17:5 treats the person who trusts in man, who makes flesh their arm, as one “whose heart departeth from the Lord.” To entrust the state with prerogatives that God is holding us individually accountable for means our hearts have departed from Him.

America – free republic to totalitarian state
The legal foundations of America, established on Biblical law via common law, have eroded and the character of the people has decayed as a growing reliance on the state has displaced personal responsibility under God. Any state not based on Biblical law is a false god, for it replaces God’s laws with its own. Jeremiah 2:11-13 compares Israel to her neighbors, observing that the heathen were more loyal to their false gods than Israel was to the True One. Israel exchanged the Lord God “for things that do not profit.” This is a double evil: “forsaking the fountain of living waters” (God) while “hewing out for themselves broken cisterns that cannot hold any water” (v.13). Hewing out for themselves means building a society according to one’s own wisdom. Totalitarianism is introduced incrementally as society shifts from a moral to a regulatory basis. The loss of liberty is not detectible over the short run. Citizens come to regard humanistic regulations as sensible and desirable. This is how “the wicked frame mischief using law” (Ps. 94:20). Ortiz says of the New Covenant of Hebrews 8:10, “Herein lies the essential structure of Christianity: God-Law-Individual. It is direct, immediate, and unencumbered by ecclesiocracy and statism.” Today we are encumbered by these joint evils – mega churches (where people are entertained and kept busy but are not taught God’s Law) and a big brother civil government (which is demanding obedience in the name of security to an ever-expanding tablet of humanistic laws) – because we have abandoned God’s laws and our responsibility to obey them. When people disregard God’s laws, the state takes over at the high cost of abridging individual liberty.

America – the theological underpinnings of national decline
47% of American adults attend church regularly – sufficient for Christians to prevail culturally as they did with vastly smaller numbers at our founding. But “modern Christian leaders have the ear of national leaders and preach in the White House and in Congress without affecting the national march into degeneracy and apostasy” (Rushdoony). This dichotomy exists because our forefathers, who worked to keep America a light to the nations, embraced a faith far removed from that held by most Americans today. Theology and doctrine shifted in the 1830s, propelling conservative Christianity through more than a century of self-marginalized decline and irrelevance. This trend only began to slow in the 1960s and 1970s with home and Christian schooling. Unfortunately, there’s a huge gap between modern Christendom and the culture-shaping convictions of our forefathers regarding the foundations of liberty: God’s 613 laws, commandments, statutes, precepts and testimonies (Deut. 28, Lev. 26, Ps. 119:64). (See Theology paper.)

America – her foundation is still our hope for the future
Since the 1830s, theologians have progressively cut the heart out of Christian activism, arguing that “you don’t polish brass on a sinking ship” because cultural darkness is supposedly increasing by God’s design. “People who expect the world to end very soon, and are planning on being raptured out of it, are not likely to be concerned about dominion over the earth, nor the application of God’s Law to the whole of life” (Rushdoony). 1 John 2:8 teaches that “the darkness is passing away and the true Light is shining already.” The Scripture cannot be broken: the darkness is in actual process of passing away as the Great Commission to disciple all nations (Matt. 28:18-20) is obeyed by God’s people and He continues to pour out His Spirit upon all flesh (Acts 2:17). If we truly fear God, we will take Christ’s question seriously: “Why callest me Lord, Lord, and do not the things I say?” Christians are not to neglect God’s Law: “God forbid, rather, we establish the law!” (Rom. 3:31). “Turning the world-changing Word of God into a symbol of impotence, escapism and cultural irrelevance entails locking Christ up in the church. If we persist in locking Him up inside the church, He will shatter the church just as He shattered the tomb.” (Rushdoony)

Is war Biblical?

We can find hope in Isaiah’s prophecy that as the knowledge of the Lord continues to flow over the earth, the nations will flow into His kingdom desiring to be instructed out of God’s Law how to walk in His paths (Isa. 2:2-4). As a result, “nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore,” securing “an abundance of peace that shall endure until the moon be no more” (Psalm 72:7). Although war will continue to be a part of life under the curse on our fallen planet until the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy, we are not left without guidance in this area, as God has much to say about it throughout Scripture.

“Just War” theory:
There is a popular tradition, developed from Augustine through Thomas Aquinas to the present, that attempts to set forth the parameters for a just war. Some of this reasoning holds biblical water, and some of it does not. This paper affirms the biblical parameters solely and owes nothing to the traditional construction, except where it intersects the Scriptures. Augustine was steeped in Aristotle and humanistic ethics and didn’t entirely shake their influence, but we should be able to do better.

Self defense:
Although some Christians decry all war, even defensive war within our nation’s boundaries after those boundaries have been violated, the failure of the civil magistrate (or in modern terms, the civil government) to defend its citizens from invading attackers is a transgression of God’s eternal law. We are commanded, “Thou shalt not stand idly by the blood of thy neighbor” (Lev. 19:16). Psalm 50 further expands on the idea of “standing idly by,” indicating that it constitutes actual consent to the evil being perpetrated. And to consent to murder is regarded by God as being a party to that murder, based on (1) Psalm 50:18’s elaboration of Lev. 19:16; (2) Saul of Tarsus’s consent to Stephen’s stoning at Acts 8:1 and his later application of this law to himself at Acts 22:20 when he confessed that “when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death” (to stand by Stephen’s blood was to consent to his death); (3) Christ’s charge to the scribes that, “you consent to the deeds of your fathers, for they killed the prophets and you build their tombs” (Luke 11:48 ESV), which is the ground upon which He added, “the blood of all the prophets shed from the foundation of the world will be charged against you” (Luke 11:50 ESV), proving that consent to murder is to be party to murder, for which reason Christ imposed the penalty for murder on the consenters in this passage. It further follows that to fail to defend oneself is to consent to and be a party to one’s own suicide, for (1) we are not to stand idly by the blood of our neighbor, and (2) we are to love our neighbors as ourselves; therefore, (3) we are not to stand idly by our own blood. The only exception is when we lay our lives down to save another (evidencing the greatest love possible in so doing).

War according to God’s Law

The Bible provides the moral parameters for self-defense at the national level.

The civil magistrate & internal justice:
Rom. 13:4 speaks of the sword wielded by the civil magistrate that is to be a terror to evildoers. The context and wording limit precisely where that sword can act: inside the borders of the nation. The sword does not have international scope, because the sword of the other nation was just as fully appointed to execute justice on its own citizens (the precise teaching of this verse). The word for sword in Greek is machaira, the Roman short sword used for execution of Roman citizens inside the empire’s borders. Paul himself was killed by one. This sword is the biblical symbol for internal justice.

Foreign conflict:
Rom. 13:4, Gen. 14:14-16, and Esther 9:2ff have been appealed to as justifying other than defensive war. Rom. 13:4 was examined above. In Gen. 14 Abram launches a private rescue of a kidnap victim (his nephew Lot) and restores stolen property, while in Esther 9 the certainty of the coming attack is backed by the king’s irrevocable order and is thus entirely actual, not merely hypothetical. The truth is that the Bible forbids a nation from having the apparatus necessary to launch a foreign war. Deut. 17:6 forbids the king from “multiplying horses to himself,” which in that culture banned the capability of conducting foreign war because a cavalry was needed to invade foreign lands, whereas an infantry (Ex. 17:9-10, Num. 1:2-3) was more than adequate to defend the homeland from outside attacks. On the principle that “the things that happened to them [Israel] are examples written down as warnings for us” (I Cor. 10:11), we must remember that all of Israel’s military campaigns that she initiated independent of God failed and that all of Israel’s legitimate wars were either defensive or involved the unique one-time disinheritance of Canaan (where God destroyed societies that had become exceedingly wicked after having rejected Him completely over many generations; God warned Israel: “Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: … and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants,” Lev. 18:24-25). The greatest and most righteous king in Israel’s entire history, Josiah, was killed when he mounted a preemptive war against Neco II, Pharaoh of Egypt. In terms of domestic policy, Josiah did everything required in God’s Law, putting in place the most amazing religious reformation Israel ever experienced. His undoing came when he indulged the presumption that military aggression against Egypt for the purpose of aiding Carchemish was a legitimate action. The tragic tale unwinds at 2 Chron. 35:20-25, where we learn that all the good Josiah had accomplished within Israel (2 Chron. 34:1-35:19) was undone by his initiation of this biblically unjustifiable war. He died, and his nation went into exile shortly thereafter, ironically at the hand of a nation other than the one Josiah had wrongly feared as being a threat to Israel.

Limitations on how war is waged:
God’s Law articulates detailed instructions for waging defensive war that forbid total war and wanton destruction. Deut. 20:19-20 specifies that even fruit trees and nesting birds must be protected in a military campaign. General Sherman’s campaigns against civilians and property during the Civil War were a deliberate breaking of these laws. In the mid-20th century, America set the minimum age for soldiers at 18 years, violating God’s command in Num. 1:3 that the minimum age to wage war is 20 years old. In these cases and others, American actions set ungodly precedents that she and other disobedient nations now continue routinely to follow.

Conduct of soldiers:
We read at Deut. 23:9 that when soldiers are called to action, they are “to keep from every wicked thing,” to be extra punctilious to avoid evil actions, for the military camp is holy (v. 14). John the Baptist used this law to instruct soldiers in personal righteousness (Luke 3:14).

Modern War Policy

Modern states engage in power politics, power balancing, socalled “Realpolitik,” to secure manipulative goals that are biblically illegitimate. A prime example of the Bible’s repudiation of such policies is provided at 2 Kings 13:14-19, wherein Elisha gave Joash the God-guaranteed opportunity to fully defeat invading Syria in five or six military campaigns (symbolized by Joash driving five or six arrows into the ground, each arrow symbolizing a military victory). Joash deliberately drove only three arrows into the ground, choosing not to defeat Syria but to keep it intact as a buffer state against Assyria, on the other side of Syria. Joash was playing modern power politics, and Elisha condemned his manipulation in the harshest terms possible (in fact, Elisha was furious with him, vs. 19). In other words, fear of Assyria motivated Joash’s refusal to fear God and do what was right, motivated him to act in terms of international politics and power balances rather than to trust and obey God in the interest of his own people. His fear of Assyria revealed his disbelief that God alone is sovereign, and was unfounded in light of God’s commandment that all nations, as nations, are to become Christ’s disciples (Psalm 22:27, Isa. 45:22-23, Matt. 28:18-20). In Isa. 19:23-25, the prophet foretells the future conversion of Israel’s two bitter enemies, Egypt and Assyria, putting them on an equal footing with Israel as followers of God; Paul elaborates on this in Rom 11:25-26.

National armed forces:
Lev. 26:6 informs us that when a nation keeps God’s law, “the sword shall not go through your land.” The citizens’ militia referred to in the Second Amendment was based on biblical precedents followed by ancient Israel when her kings were not apostate (e.g., 1 Sam. 11:8). America today needs the large number of armed forces we have because we have forsaken God, exchanging divine sovereignty for state sovereignty (Jer. 2:11) and self-reliance for reliance on the state (a vastly more costly and less effective course). And to this, Scripture attaches a curse: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man, who makes flesh his arm” (Jer. 17:5). The verse concludes by calling such an attitude “turning our heart away from the Lord.” It takes strength of character to keep one’s heart stayed on God, as the scribe Ezra testified when he led a perilous expedition to Jerusalem: “I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, ‘The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.’” (Ezra 8:22). God protects the nation that leans on Him (Isa. 4:5: “upon all the glory shall be a defence”) while calling upon the civil magistrate to exercise its rightful jurisdiction inside the nation’s borders. “Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain” (Ps. 127:1), for “horses and chariots” aren’t sufficient protection (Psalm 20:7).

Global war on terror:
Biblical law offers nations a basis for establishing extradition treaties for the pursuit of justice and prosecution of criminals crossing international borders. Extradition treaties exist primarily because nations recognize one another’s spheres as inviolable, and because their signatories share a common notion of justice sufficient to undergird such treaties. America’s pursuit of terrorists across international borders undercuts the basis for establishing biblical extradition treaties in the future. Christians are commanded not to fear anyone or anything but God and by so doing are set free (Heb. 2:15) to think and act toward furthering Christ’s kingdom. When we wage war based on fear of terror, which is an abstraction and not an actual enemy, we disobey God’s Law, risk interfering with Christ’s redemptive work on Earth, and remove our nation from His protection and covering.

The way to peace:
Most modern nations transgress God’s Law by both maintaining the forbidden means of making war for purposes other than national self defense, and by seeking their own ends. This will never bring about peace. The only way to end international warfare is by spreading God’s Law into all lands and making disciples of all nations through proclaiming the gospel (Isa. 2:2-4, Matt. 28:18-20). Zech. 9:9-10 tells us that the Messiah “shall speak peace to the nations.” Since all power on heaven and earth is given unto Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:18), the strongest defense for any nation is to obey Him. “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord” (Zech. 4:6). Psalm 127, which is actually about national defense, teaches that godly homes and children (likened to arrows) are a nation’s best defense, so that “the sword shall not go through your land” (Lev. 26:6). Psalm 2 puts it very clearly: “Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for His wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.” No wise and God-fearing nation would knowingly desire to stand in opposition to the Messiah’s omnipotent work by engaging in international conflicts and wars. Any nation that recognizes its true King, and obeys its true King, will liberate itself from the enslaving doctrines of international power politics and international wars. One day, “the kingdoms of this world shall become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever” (Rev. 11:15). Godliness and national obedience are by far the strongest defense for any country.

A Nation’s Money: God’s Test for Justice

The Bible ties a nation’s monetary policy to the concept of justice. To God, the two are inseparable. You see how just a society is by examining the foundational nature of its money.

Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have. (Lev. 19:35-36)

Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small. Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small. But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have…. For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the Lord thy God. (Deut. 25:13-16)

Ye shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath. (Ezek. 45:10)

People were forbidden to possess false weights on their person or in their home. Every measure of value (particularly monetary value) was to be just and perfect. They were either a delight or an abomination to God (Prov. 11:1, Prov. 16:11). We live in an age where “the law is slacked” (Hab. 1:4).

We are “partial in the Law” (Mal. 2:9), victims of the great American Christian coma, and so we tolerate the monetary abominations God condemns. America uses fiat money, unbacked by gold or silver, which constitutes the “divers weight and measure” God hates. Measures of value that delight God were criminalized when FDR signed Presidential Executive Order 6102 on April 5, 1933: “All persons are hereby required to deliver on or before May 1, 1933, to a Federal Reserve bank or a branch or agency thereof or to any member bank of the Federal Reserve System all gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates now owned by them or coming into their ownership on or before April 28, 1933.” Punishment: up to 10 years of imprisonment and a $10,000 fine. Von Mises wrote that “in the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value. If there were, the government would have to make its holding illegal, as was done in the case of gold. If everyone decided, for example, to convert all his bank deposits to silver or copper, and thereafter declined to accept checks as payment for goods, bank deposits would lose their purchasing power and government-created bank credit would be worthless as a claim on goods. The financial policy of the welfare state requires that there be no way for the owners of wealth to protect themselves. This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists’ tirades against gold. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists’ antagonism toward the gold standard.”

A surprise discovery in Micah

The prophet Micah defines money held in unjust forms (fiat paper money like the U.S. dollar) as “the treasures of wickedness.” “False measures are called the treasures of wickedness, the essential means of falsifying the life of a society” (Rushdoony). Micah’s claim occurs in a highly quoted Old Testament verse, Micah 6:8: “He has shown thee, O man, what is good, and what doth the Lord require of thee, to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God.” Pastors routinely sever this verse from its context (justice and money). It’s universally quoted yet universally misunderstood.

“He has shown thee, o man, what is good…” God has shown us: we don’t have to create new policies. What is good and just has been spelled out. Micah speaks to all men (“O man”) – not just to Jews, but to Gentiles and to us today.

“…and what doth the Lord require of thee…” What is good is what the Lord requires of us. What God requires is for our good and achieves good personally and culturally. What is required has been shown to us: it is not up in the air; it is not in the New Testament (or the verse would have used the future tense, “He will show thee, o man, what is good…”). God has shown, past tense, in the Old Testament.

“… to do justly…” Here is the crux of the entire matter. The Lord requires us to do justly. And He has already shown what this means – in His Law. Pastors too often amputate this verse from its context, but Micah is simply reasserting Deut. 16:20, which literally reads, “Justice, justice, shalt thou do!”

“… to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God.” Because pastors seem to nail “mercy” and “walking humbly with God” in sermons, giving them “a strong finish,” the flock rarely detects the weak exposition that “to do justly” receives.

The forgotten context of that Micah passage

Micah 6:9 reads “The Lord’s voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see Thy Name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.” It’s a serious situation: God is already crying out to the city, voicing a warning, and men of wisdom hear it and discern God’s name in it: “Hear ye the rod, and Who hath appointed it.” A few men of wisdom foresaw the Lord’s Name in America’s looming financial judgments decades in advance, hearing the rod while it was yet afar off. “Hear ye the rod” means every rod has a voice – God never executes judgment without giving the reason for it (Ps. 119:67, 71). Why should a rod be appointed for us? The next verses explain why America has earned its appointment.

Micah 6:10-11: “Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable? Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?” These four concepts explain one another. Deceitful weights involve wicked balances resulting in the scant measure which constitute treasures of wickedness. Fiat currencies are not only abominable and unjust, they are also treasures of wickedness. The bag equates to today’s wallets, bank accounts, savings accounts, and treasuries. What is in our bags today? Deceitful weights! No wonder Noah Webster described legal tender laws (which force people to accept fiat paper currencies in lieu of gold or silver) as “the devil in the flesh.”

Micah informs the people who use fiat money that “Thou shalt eat but not be satisfied: and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee…” (v. 14). The origin of the destruction of a nation is in the midst of thee: the nation will be broken and ruined by internal crises. God can cast down a nation from the inside. National defense can protect a country’s borders from external invasion, but it cannot protect from destruction from within, the form that this particular rod of God will take.

A long-standing, multi-generational problem

The cause of a nation’s judgment is revealed in Micah 6:16: “For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab….” The word For at the beginning is equivalent to Because. The laws and policies of previous administrations in Israel’s past were a primary cause of the threatened internal ruin. Omri and Ahab, kings long gone, still worked their political poison, having established wickedness by law (the statutes of Omri). “The wicked frame mischief using law” (Ps. 94:20).

God’s Law has no statute of limitations. It was irrelevant that Israeli practices seemed to stand the test of time, for God had not waived the land Sabbath law (which He enforced after 490 years of Israel violating it). God is longsuffering but won’t ignore long-standing defiance of His Law.

Ahab mixed Baal worship with Jehovah worship. Today’s politicians are expected to follow Baal on the job and the Lord in private. But as Elijah said, if Jehovah be God, follow Him! To do so, we must abandon our love for the treasures of wickedness that unjust weights give us. This means working to restore honest currency tied to specie metals, and no longer transmitting the corrupt statutes of our past onto our posterity.

Where have all the shepherds gone?

“Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast deceit, they refuse to return” (Jer. 8:5). We Americans are similarly deceived.

Jeremiah faced antinomianism (rejection of God’s laws) disguised as a respect for God’s Law! “How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made He it: the pen of the scribes is in vain. The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?” (Jer. 8:8-9). Literally: “Behold, the false pen of the scribes hath wrought falsely.” Antinomianism was cloaked in feigned respect for God’s Law, as today. (See paper on Theology.)

“For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace” (Jer. 8:11). Today’s pulpits have largely been silent about the treasures of wickedness. “For the pastors have become brutish, and have not sought the Lord: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered” (Jer. 10:22).

National sins are individual sins writ large

Jeremiah 9 speaks to the nation. But the prophet switches focus to the individuals comprising the nation. “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches…” (Jer. 9:23). Though Israel had kings and governors, responsibility is laid on her citizens. National sins fall back on us.

The loss and recovery of God’s message in lawless times

Note the peculiar wording in Jer. 22:13: “Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work…” One would have expected laborer, not neighbor! It is the neighbor’s services that are being extracted without wages being involved, with the ruler not giving his neighbors anything for the work he receives.

This mirrors our modern tax code and the hidden taxes that monetary inflation inflicts. Monetary inflation (the devaluing of currency through fractional reserve banking and other means) perpetuates unjust weights in a culture.

“I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear” (Jer. 22:21). Nations are warned in the midst of prosperity, but refuse to hear. Jeremiah, seeking anyone who might listen, cries to the earth itself: “O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord!” (Jer. 22:29). None listened while the rod was distant. The punishments came after seven years.

“For both prophet and priest are profane; yeah, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the Lord” (Jer. 23:11). These pastors refused to address the issue of justice biblically, using the language of orthodoxy yet rejecting His Law. They “have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?” (Jer. 8:9b). Unanchored by God’s Law, the personal opinions of pastors are worthless and dangerous.

In Jer. 23:16, Jeremiah warns that the nation’s teachers “make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord.” They leaned on their own thinking, and thus they lowered the nation’s moral standards. Many got their message by observing the times. But no godly teacher ever finds his message by observing the times he lives in. He declares God’s word to the times for their correction.

Jer. 23:30: “Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.” The prophets that steal my words from their neighbors are those who refuse to apply God’s Law, God’s justice, to their situation. Antinomianism, the “slacking of the Law” (Hab. 1:4), is stealing God’s words from our neighbors.

A truly Levitical ministry delivers radically different results: “[various leaders] and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place. So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading” (Neh. 8:7-8). “And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.” The people rejoice at having had God’s words not stolen from them, but read to them distinctly, with their leaders giving the sense, so the people are caused to understand the reading.

The litmus test

“I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran…. But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings” (Jer. 23:21-22).

Jeremiah is saying that the proof of the leaders’ faithfulness to God’s word is measured by God’s people repenting and changing their course. All the leaders had to do was to stand in God’s counsel (accept God’s Word as authoritative and act accordingly) and to cause God’s people to hear God’s words (following the pattern of Nehemiah 8). The failure of American Christians to even lift a finger to address the treasures of wickedness (spawned by our fiat monetary policy and lodging unchallenged in our shrinking bank accounts) is strong proof that our pastors do not stand in God’s counsel, nor do they cause God’s words to be heard by the people.

Faithful preaching causes a turnaround in the peoples’ lives. The people of God then work to be part of the long-term effort to overhaul their nation’s monetary system, working for just weights and measures that delight the Lord, not money that repels Him. (Just putting the words In God We Trust on coins that God regards as abominations is a brazen provocation against Him; it is to spit in His eye – see Taxation paper.) Even the first step down this road toward justice receives the blessing of God (Hag. 1:12-13).

A Dark Nation In Dark Times

A Dark Nation In Dark Times

By Sheriff Jim R. Schwiesow, Ret.

The Covenant News ~ February 09, 2009

It is a time of retribution – a time as dark and dismal as of the rivers Acheron and Styx in Hades. The United States has slipped into the end of its days afflicted with festering pustules of iniquity and in the grip of arrogant Godless men who serve dark demonic spirits; the nation hurtles toward its final and inevitable end.

I don’t know about others, but I have quickly tired of the ubiquitous presence of Barack Obama. Though I had no more regard for George W. Bush than I do for Mr. Obama I do have to admit that Mr. Bush’s disinclination to television omnipresence was indeed a virtue. In three short weeks Obama, by contrast, has become a proverbial pain in the lower physical region – a flaming narcissist his every move, his every word, and his phony whimsical man of the people facade has quickly worn thin. Though he is in love with himself and fancies himself as another Abraham Lincoln, he is in reality just an inexperienced untried and untested wet behind the ears ordinary man with no exceptional gifts other than being a very good socialist snake oil salesman.

The obsequious loons of the national media, who are largely responsible for Mr. Obama’s election, have convinced this brash and bold neophyte that he is a god worthy of worship and destined for greatness. Colloquial television appearances and glib utterances do not a statesman make. Barack Obama is destined all right, but he is not destined to greatness.

We can expect wild excesses of socialism under President Obama and his comrades of the effete Democrat Party. Bolstered by the ignorant minions who view him as a savior Barack Hussein Obama has been given Carte Blanch to transition the nation from a capitalist republic to a totalitarian socialist state.

I have previously written that the Republicans, by their own hand, have been rendered impotent and ineffectual. They have become increasingly irrelevant in regard to setting a moral and honorable course for the nation. Falsely believing that they are dealing with estimable people of an opposite party they have failed to plumb the depths of the nastiness of the socialist heart.

Despite the fact that Republicans have been able to observe the works and mark the words of the likes of Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Al Gore, Barney Frank, Joe Biden and those of George Cloony, Susan Sarandon, Leonardo Di Caprio, Michael Moore, and the other socialist lunatics of the entertainment industry and the congress they just never learn. They seem to be incapable of discerning the dark spirit of the socialist mind. If the actions of the aforementioned and of such groups as PETA, The Green Groups, and other socialist radical collectives have not educated them to the meanness, blackness and nastiness of the socialist psyche then there is no hope for them.

It is clear that George W. Bush pushed the nation far down the road toward destruction and it is equally clear that President Obama will most assuredly finish it off. His actions out of the gate portend bad times for the nation. He quickly established that his campaign promises were as piecrusts, made to be broken. This was not a surprise as collectively politicians are inveterate liars, but aside from his lies this one has a darkly foreboding potential. He appears to be the select of the dark world and the devil, who sets the course of the nations, has seemingly cloaked him with an invincibility that delivers him from accountability for his words and actions and protection from those who oppose him.

One of the new president’s first acts was to sign an order removing the restriction prohibiting the use of American taxpayer monies to fund international contraception and abortion. During his campaign Obama promised that he would work to reduce abortions, those who believed him should be ashamed of their own stupidity and gullibility, they are now on the hook for millions to export abortion to foreign nations.

For those who write to me to take issue with my characterization of Obama as a killer of babies, I will amend that characterization and say that he helps to enable the killing of babies through proxies. Mr. Obama was one of a handful in congress to advocate for the premeditated murder of fully developed babies by partial birth abortion, a euphemism for murder that apparently sooths the conscience of those who endorse infanticide. And now he finances the slaying of babies’ world wide and forces U.S. taxpayers, including those who execrate and despise this vile and evil practice, to fund such killings.

Requital For An Iniquitous Nation:

“Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.” Isaiah 1:4-6

I have previously written that much of Old Testament prophecy is not specific to the time that it was written, but is oft times a divinely given revelation of the events of the final days. The foregoing written word of Isaiah most certainly is applicable to the United States and identifies our nation today in precise detail.

That the nation is filthy in sin cannot be denied we are mired in evil, immorality, injustice, unfairness and wickedness. That we revel in the perversions and immoral practices that are promoted, endorsed and protected by our government and our courts also cannot be contradicted. That such is not recognized and condemned by our spiritual leaders, but rather is excused, justified, condoned and supported by the same speaks to an end time apostate church.

We have spread the seeds of evil unto other nations and have exported corrosive values and practices. Our entertainment industry had propagated a soul-searing and perverse influence through films, music and electronic games. All of which advance and encourage promiscuous sex, drug use, gratuitous violence, unnatural acts, and occultist practices. Surely we are an international propagator of sin.

We have corrupted our children and allowed them to be inculcated in our schools and institutions with socialist doctrine, ignorant political correctness and existential teachings. The fundamental educational curriculums – the basics – have been replaced by political and social indoctrination. Our kids may not be smart, but they sure do feel good about themselves.

We deny the sovereignty of the Eternal, blaspheme His name, mock His word, reject His justice and dishonor His Son, and then have the audacity to invoke His blessing upon our filthy fallen nation. He is LORD and will not be mocked we ought to tremble in fear in the face of His power and might and drop to our knees in shame and repentance.

The whole head (our leadership) is sick. From the sole of the foot (our people) even unto the foot there is no soundness (goodness). The whole of the nation is putrid and a stench in the nostrils of the Creator.

Our political leaders are corrupt; a lack of spiritual integrity has rendered them faint of heart and dull of mind. They blunder about aimlessly and lead the nation onto purposeless paths and dead end endeavors.

Politics American Style

To serve in congress is now a sure route to riches. All one has to do upon being elected is to sell his, or her, integrity and plunge into a giddy world of you feather my nest and I’ll feather yours mentality. It is Washington politics and it is rotten. A favor here and a favor there is worth a mansion here a vacation home there not to mention expensive gifts, vacations and bank endowments. Add to that a not too shabby salary, expense paid junkets, free country club type perks, free medical care, magnificent retirement packages and all the quid pro quo political contributions needed to assure one of lifetime tenure. If one can live with his, or her, conscience one has a pretty nice setup. And from my perspective there seems to be no conscience stricken opposition to the cushy setup for these so-called servants of the people.

President Obama has certainly lived up to my expectations. Campaign promises were quickly cast aside and forgotten. During the campaign he gave his word that he would appoint no lobbyists to his administration. It was one of those piecrust promises and quickly forgotten as he appointed three lobbyists and as many tax cheats. If George Bush had done such the roof would have fallen upon him, there would have been months of investigations and severe censorship in the media. Remember now that Mr. Obama has been endowed with invincibility. When he blunders, and everything he has done to date has been a blunder, his media guardians will immediately close ranks with him and bear him up on golden pillows. This man appears to be untouchable, and it is not Lincoln who whispers into his ear.

I have previously opined that everything President Barack Obama turns his hand to will come to naught. His every endeavor will fail and his every action will move the country inexorably to a final climactic devastation. As I write he pushes a deeply spiritually obtuse congress to pass a nearly one trillion dollars so-called economic stimulus bill. If the bill passes, and it most surely will as he has the socialist votes in congress to assure its passage, he will have set in motion an irreversible series of events that will bring the nation to it knees. Our fate will have been sealed.

The nation is already deeply in hock and has used its taxpayer citizens as collateral for huge international loans. We are living a hand to mouth existence and have reached the limits of our borrowing abilities. We will be forced to crank up the printing machines and runaway inflation will ensue. For each little spurt of optimism there will follow a number of reverses. The economy will collapse and the social upheaval that follows will set into motion a series of prophetic events that will finish off the nation.

The Nation Is Doomed – You Do Not Have To Suffer That Fate

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Collectively this nation, the United States of America, is spiritually dead and condemned. But, you – dear reader – do not have to share that fate. Be not anxious, GOD has provide a way out and that way is the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

Believe and be delivered.

Spiritually Dead And Condemned

Spiritually Dead And Condemned

By Sheriff Jim R. Schwiesow, Ret.

The Covenant News ~ January 21, 2009

“And the rest of men who were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.” –Revelation 9:20-21

It occurs to me that at least ninety percent of the people of the United States actually believe the following myths and fairy tales: That George W. Bush is a Christian, that Barack Obama is a Christian and the savior who will deliver the people and the nation from the effects of a half century and more of morally corrupt behavior, that Rick Warren is a Christian, that the economy will recover from a criminally induced collapse, that the courts actually dispense justice, that the Constitution is immutable, that the government is of the people and serves the people, that the members of congress are selfless servants who never use their position to greedily accumulate wealth and power, that the United States and its military are always righteous and never the aggressor, that the United States is still a Republic rather than a Social Democracy, that the national media reports only truth and fact and upholds the dignity of those on whom they report, that the schools educate rather than indoctrinate, that God is a big loving teddy bear who never exacts a penalty for disobedience or disciplines morally corrupt behavior and that everything in the United States is just hunky-dory since God’s blessings are upon the nation.

Recently the History Channel ran a series entitled, “Armageddon.” I was amazed and taken by the fact that so many of the participants, both secular individuals and believers in Biblical truths, were seemingly of one mind in regard to this nation and the world being on a collision course with an apocalyptic destructive end. In a segmented program that played over a period of several days a succession of scientists, secular scholars of varying types, Biblical scholars and historians wove a hair raising saga of climactic events – man-made and natural – leading to the final inevitable end of the age. Whether they realized it or not even the presentations of the secular participants supported the writings of the old-testament prophets and of John the Revelator in regard to the final days and the ultimate cataclysmic series of events that will bring a horrific end to the world as we know it. These were enlightened, intelligent and perceptive individuals and they most certainly were not representative of the deluded collective population of a nation that follows blindly after Satan, the ruler of the nations and the god of this fallen world.

We are about to transition from the lies, deceit and prevarication of one administration to the lies, deceit and prevarication of another; it will be, in fact, merely a continuation of the same betrayal of constitutional guarantees, unlawful and unrestricted immigration, insecure borders, wild frivolous spending, and government encouragement of a deeply immoral societal abjection. Babies will continue to be murdered, vice will be condoned and promoted for the revenue that it evokes, the government will persist in abrading constitutional protections, and the people’s sovereignty will be bartered away so that the nation can be melded into a one world system. George Bush, during his reign, feigned a mild disapproval of some of these condemnable odium’s, but did nothing to deter the practice thereof. No words were uttered to marshal opposition and no actions were taken to lead the nation and its people onto righteous paths. While George Bush merely condoned – by his inaction and indifference – these abominations, Barack Obama actively pursues and encourages legitimacy for, and government-instituted protection of, the same.

The media and the pundits have made much of the supposed candor and forthrightness of George W. Bush during his final news conference. My observation was that he projected a deceptive cleverness and exuded a delusive demeanor of humble servitude during the course of the televised event. If I hadn’t monitored him carefully throughout his eight-year tenure I might have believed him. But, unlike George, I am able to correctly construct the following quote: “If you fool me once it is your fault, if you fool me twice it is my fault.”

Actually Mr. Bush had a long list of failings, and they were failings that had much to do with bringing the nation to its state of impeding disintegration. His incessant fixation with so-called protectionism and the conclusion by his administration of trade agreements inimical to our best interests destroyed U.S. industry and left millions unemployed as manufacturing jobs were exported to foreign shores. His complete disregard for the security of the borders and the encouraging of the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants has very nearly destroyed the infrastructure of the nation. His imperious disdain for constitutional guarantees was responsible for a serious incursion upon the privacy rights of U.S. citizens and left the door open to legislation that disabled the elements of a constitutional protection of the people from government tyranny.

Perhaps the biggest shame upon George W. Bush and his administration was the egregiously wrongful prosecution of the two patriot border patrol agents, Ignacios Ramos and Jose Compean. Instead of being commended for their diligent action against a criminal invader, the Bush Administration’s Attorney General, and the lackeys under his command, railroaded these two patriot officers into prison. Should there be no Bush pardon for these two wronged defenders of the law prior to his leaving office he will carry this shame to his grave.

I will say this for Mr. Bush; unlike his predecessor in office there have been, in regard to his service, no illicit affairs, no perjury charges, no spots on a dress, no renting of Lincoln’s bedroom for money, no untoward pardons and no impeachment proceedings. If, in fact, such moral lapses were present he must have been infinitely slicker than “Slick Willie” as our coon dog media was never able to sniff out such perverse activities.

One of the biggest hits that he has been subjected to was “allowing” the destruction of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. This shows just how ignorant political critics can be, one does not allow destruction from a natural weather event; the event just delivers the destruction. The fact that thousands of people were still in the city and that thousands of busses were corralled in parking lots, like cows in a pen, instead of being used to move people out of harms way certainly cannot be laid at the feet of George W. Bush. It was in fact the failings and ignorance of the people and of local and state officials that caused the grief and suffering in the aftermath of the storm.

George Bush didn’t corral those busses, he didn’t herd the people into the stadium where they were assaulted, raped, and murdered and he didn’t loot one place of business or one residence. It wasn’t Mr. Bush who ran away from the responsibility of protecting the people it was the individual police officers and public safety officials, and it is dead certain that he wasn’t a part of the group of snipers that murdered individuals and fired upon rescue helicopters.

States and local governments had better look to providing for the safety of their peoples independent of the big daddy in the white house and the self-knighted noblemen in congress because a serious time is on the horizon, and nothing in the constitution says that the federal government has the responsibility to take the hand of the various state and local officials – or their constituents – to lead them through cataclysmal natural events, nor to mollycoddle them, nor to save them from their own stupidity, nor to guarantee that they shall never be hungry, homeless, poor or destitute.

Despite the fact that our new self-proclaimed messiah, Barack Obama, will swear on Lincoln’s Bible to be the deliverer of a reliant, dependent, deluded, narcissistic and hedonistic people he will fail as miserably as George W. Busch ever did, perhaps worse. When an ignorant people ultimately discern that he possesses no divine qualities and is unable to save their jobs, their homes and their lavishly decadent lifestyles he will be as despised as was George W. Bush. He had better savor and delight in the present worship by an erratic and fickle people because it will be short lived.

I was interested to learn that Mr. Obama, like one of our recent previous presidents, venerates Abraham Lincoln, and has purportedly communed with his spirit. It is written that President Nixon paid a midnight visit to Lincoln’s tomb to summon a spiritual contact with the long dead sixteenth president so that he might seek his guidance and counsel. Now we have Barack Obama, the anointed of the people, who makes no secret of his worship of Abraham Lincoln. In fact he has disclosed that he has on prominent display in his office a portrait of Lincoln that has actually spoken to him. I can’t help but wonder if Lincoln’s spirit might have divulged the reason for his unleashing of General Sherman, the devil’s henchman, and his rabid union dogs upon a hapless south after the confederacy had already been vanquished and unable to mount any semblance of a defense against a horrifyingly rampage of rape, murder, looting and incendiaries, perchance Mr. Obama will enlighten us in this regard.

It comes as no surprise that the new president has no knowledge of God’s forbiddance of divination and necromancy. I would recommend to him chapter ten verses thirteen and fourteen of 1 Chronicles for some Godly instruction. That the new president confesses to talking with a portrait is troubling, there are only two possible explanations either he is communing with demonic spirits or he has crossed the road to schizophrenia. Maybe as he wanders down his soothsaying path he will be reminded of the fate of King Saul.

The day of rebuke is hard upon this nation; we are on the cusp of the day of reckoning for our mockery of God’s laws and well beyond the pale in regard to national sin. Every day of every week the level of decency, righteousness and morality descends to new lows. Murder, thievery, debauchery and crookedness are the norm rather than the exception, such behavior is the way of life of many on all levels of our society. Husbands, wives sons and daughters murder other members of their family, sometimes wiping out entire households in atrocious slaughters. Each day more sociopaths are introduced into our neighborhoods to prey upon innocents, our children must be guarded and kept off the streets and out of the malls to prevent their sexual molestation and murder. We have absolutely nothing going for us in the watchful eyes of the Eternal; this nation is around the bend and beyond saving.

“Blessed is he who permits the Word of God to judge him now, for the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than a twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of joint and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” –Hebrews 4:12

This nation is doomed, but there is yet hope for individuals. Seek ye Jesus the Christ and confess your sins and ask for forgiveness, then forsake old ways and place yourself in His hands, His power and His might is beyond that of puny men and earthly kingdoms. He is the Alpha and the Omega and He will be with you even unto the end of the age.

Weighed And Found Wanting

Weighed And Found Wanting

The Covenant News ~ December 15, 2008

    Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin

To sin by silence when we should protest makes cowards out of men
    –Ella Wheeler Wilcox

At The Gates Of Perdition

On January 20th upwards of four million Americans are expected to gather in the nation’s capitol to celebrate the swearing in to Presidential Office of the one that they have anointed as their savior, and to drink of the golden vessels containing the fruits of the victory of their exalted elect and praise the secular gods of this nation.

In solemnization reminiscent of the great celebratory spectacles of the Third Reich four million voices will be raised in adulation to the greatest con man to grace the political scene in the history of the nation, a seeming apparition without credentials who wandered onto the American political landscape ostensibly out of nowhere, and who has – along with his wife – expressed only a deep abiding disdain for the traditions and values of the Republic of which he is an unverified part. Unable to produce a certificate of birth he appears to be a stateless nomad. No records were produced by his campaign to confirm his place of birth or the name by which he was registered at Columbia University. His academic registers are as blank as his record of political accomplishments and as vacuous as his promises.

How is it, one might ask, that such a man could be elected to the Office of Presidency of the United States? The answer is easy the level of ignorance in this nation has reached a saturation point that brings a flush of shame to the countenance of knowledgeable thinking Americans. A solid majority of those who voted for this king of prestidigitation have a cognition level of near zero. Poll after poll has revealed that his most rabid supporters were so intelligence deprived that they had barely the ability to comprehend or communicate at a fourth grade level.

When queried, these were unable to supply the most basic information about their nation, its origins or its governing institutions. Most could not name their elected representatives, they could not name any of the cabinet members, they did not know the powers and functions of the three branches of government in fact they didn’t know that there were three branches of government, their knowledge of the Constitution was nil, and they couldn’t differentiate between the revolutionary and the civil war. The Electoral College is a mystery to them and when the campaign programs of their candidate’s opponent were put to them they inaccurately identified these as the platform of their own preferential candidate. Their abysmal ignorance extended to their own home localities, the majority could not name their mayors or their governors, and about international issues and personages they had not a clue.

These mentally challenged souls, products of a perverted education system, do not view the inauguration as a swearing in of a president, they view it as the coronation of a great and benevolent king. They actually believe that they have in the person of Barak Obama a worshipful savior who will deliver them from the obligations that accrue to their status as citizens. They now expect that they will be able to tell their creditors to go fly a kite, that they will be disengaged from mortgage and rental payment obligations, that food will magically appear on their plates and that medical, educational, and a host of other services will be free, paid for – they hope – by those who voted against their chosen one. I wish that I could state that this was written satirically, but unfortunately I cannot.

Ah! You say, but what about those of academia, the national media and the entertainment community who so fanatically supported Obama as a messiah and potential savior of the nation? Surely these are not ignorant. To this I would say that to be able to comprehend and to understand and profit from experience one must be possessed of two mental attributes, general knowledge and guiding commonsense. Many of the former have knowledge, but are sadly lacking and direfully short of an ability to make sound practical judgments, in short they have not a lick of common sense. They, like those who are deficient of both knowledge and commonsense, are the product of an education system that indoctrinates rather than educates. It was indeed an unholy alliance of the dimwitted and the deceived that put this man into office.

Sick Souls – Sick Ways – A Sick Nation

This week a number of grim news stories appeared that very prominently pointed up the increasingly perverse and depraved nature of a significant portion of the population of this country.

The first of these had to do with a male pedestrian who was struck by a hit and run driver, and then laid along the roadside for hours in plain sight and expired from his injuries while thousands of vehicles passed by, the drivers of which neither stopped to render assistance or bothered to phone in a report of the injured man to public safety authorities. This coldness and lack of compassion defies an explanation except to say that the majority of our people are seared of conscience and lack even a smidgeon of awareness and sympathy for another’s suffering. The blood of this unfortunate man stains the souls of those who had no pity for a fellow human being.

In Florida a teenager committed suicide in full view of thousands who watched him on their computers, via his web cam, as he progressed through the stages leading to his death from a deliberate ingestion of prescription pharmaceutical drugs. The watchers were enthralled by the young man’s macabre progression from cognizance to stupor then to a comatose state and finally into the hands of the grim reaper. Some of the watchers exhorted him on in his grim departure from life. For ten hours they urged him to continue with his suicide endeavor with taunts of, “Take more that is not enough to kill you” and “Go ahead and do it”. That such as these claim membership in the human race is discordant with reason or logic. They have more affinity with the evil spirits of the demon world, their apparent mentors in life, than they do with the human race.

What has happened to human decency? In Long Island, New York a young temporary worker who had been assigned to security duties at a Wal-Mart Store was stomped and trampled to death by a “Black Friday” rabble of wild-eyed so-called shoppers with the mentality of a herd of hollow-horned ruminants with mad cow disease.

As the young man prepared to unlock the doors for the day’s business nearly two thousand of these half-wits surged forward and burst through the doors ripping them from their hinges and shattering the glass. Then with the intensity of a herd of demented bulls with the smell of blood in their nostrils they trampled to death this young man who was trying to shield a pregnant woman from the savagery of their onslaught. To add to their ignominy they roared around the store, in the likeness of sanity deprived Neanderthals, filling their carts while totally ignoring the suffering of the injured and the endeavors of the rescue people.

After describing the wretched event a TV station invited listeners to call in. I tuned out quickly with the strains of a whiney woman’s comment that it was all Wal-Mart’s fault echoing in my ears. Lord deliver us from such in the coming time of retribution.

A recent news report of a survey of thirty thousand high school seniors disclosed that eighty percent of them admitted to cheating and lying, sixty-four percent admitted to cheating on tests, and thirty percent admitted to stealing from stores. Another new report just out indicates that one in five young adults in this country have serious personality disorders that interfere with their daily lives. One has to wonder where these young people acquired their values and their mental disturbances. Was it at home or in the schools? And what part did the church play in their lives, if any?

A Just Recompense

Following is the prophesy of Nahum given unto Nineveh of Assyria prior to the complete destruction of that great city by the Eternal Most High God. Think not that such Biblical prophesy is confined strictly to whom it was originally addressed, in this case the Assyrian residents of the capitol city Nineveh. It instead identifies God’s wrath upon a people of depraved hearts and minds, worshippers of the lusts of the flesh rather than worshippers of GOD, and our people fit the bill of particulars perfectly in this regard.

“Behold, I am against you,” says the LORD of hosts; I will lift your skirts over your face, I will show the nations your nakedness, And the kingdoms your shame. I will cast abominable filth upon you, make you vile, and make you a spectacle. It shall come to pass that all who look upon you will flee from you, and say, Nineveh is laid waste! Who will bemoan her?” Nahum 3:5-7

The sack of the city of Nineveh by the Babylonians and Medes in 612 BC effectively put an end to the Assyrian Empire; and, although some of its sections were later inhabited, Nineveh never again regained it power and affluence. Take heed – a similar fate waits this nation

“Behold, I am against you,” says the LORD of hosts, “I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions; I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall be heard no more.”

Beyond A Fiery Gate Lies Our Destiny

Beyond A Fiery Gate Lies Our Destiny

By Jim R. Schwiesow

The Covenant News ~ August 28, 2008

Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.” Zechariah 14:12

He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” Matthew 16:2-3

Today, while surfing the internet I ran across one of those interminably silly arguments, via a written exchange, as to whether the Bible is verifiably true or just a collection of colorful, and obtuse fairy tales. It is interesting that these exchanges always seem to be comprised of a divide between the collective bodies of two groups – those who despise the thought that a sovereign God exists and that He might have any control over the universe, the world or horror of horrors their own personal lives, and those nominal Christians who spin their wheels futilely and vainly with nonsensical contentions and vacuous arguments grounded only in the wisdom and doctrines of men and devoid of an unfaltering, unshakable and unassailable belief in the super natural power of the Eternal Spirit who created a universe of one hundred twenty-five billion galaxies; each encompassing one hundred billion stars. All this is mindful of the old TV commercial in which a little old lady lifts the top of the bun enclosing a hamburger and indignantly exclaims, “Where’s the beef?” Like that scrawny little denizen of the geriatric set a true believer in the eternal almighty and infallible God looks at these delusive and puny proffers and cries out, “Where’s the faith?”

On August 6, 1945 a relatively small, by today’s standards, atomic bomb of 130 pounds of Uranium-235 named “Little Boy” plunged from the belly of an American B-29 bomber and detonated 1,900 feet above the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later another B-29 Superfortress carried a nuclear bomb to Nagasaki, a hapless secondary target that was an unfortunate alternate to the primary target of Kokura, which was obscured by clouds. The Japanese military upon noting that only two aircraft were approaching thought that it was only a reconnaissance mission and no alarm was given. Minutes later a second nuclear device, a bulbous Plutonium bomb aptly called “Fat Boy” descended and detonated 1,500 feet above the city. In two brief and blindingly horrific instances within the space of three days 150,000 people died, incinerated by temperatures exceeding 7,000 degrees Fahrenheit. They died in their tracks; their eyes dissolved in their sockets, their tongues dissolved in their mouths and the flesh was consumed from their bones. They either evaporated into nothingness or dropped to the ground as ashes, which were blown away by fiery winds of six hundred miles per hour. And these were the lucky ones upwards of 200,000 more people of those two cities died slowly, agonizingly and tortuously over the next five years from radiation sickness and cancers.

What is not commonly known is that the Japanese narrowly escaped a nearly complete nuclear annihilation. The then President, Harry S. Truman, had announced that if the Japanese government and military failed to accept the terms for an unconditional surrender they could expect a rain of ruin from the air the likes of which has never been seen upon this earth. In the works were four more nuclear bombs and the argument was not whether they would be used, but whether they should be delivered upon the Japanese mainland as they were readied over the next few months or be held and poured out upon the Japanese people in quick succession. Mankind has within its grasp the wherewithal to annihilate every last living soul upon this earth and the evilness of mind to do so.

Mr. Truman failed to note, upon the delivery of his statement as to the likes of such destruction having never been seen upon the earth, that the event was not unprecedented. Those who believe the Bible know that the Biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were delivered unto just such a fiery destruction at the hand of God over five thousand years ago in the year 3123BC; the cause – great sin, rejection of God and His laws and a declination to seek His grace in all humility and abject submissiveness.

The Bible contains a chronological recording of the events of the earth and its inhabitants past, present and future. Only the Creator, the Lord God Almighty, has such perspective. The prophets and apostles who recorded His revelations were selected for just such a purpose before the foundations of the earth were laid, and their inspiration – the Eternal God of limitless power – has preserved their work and His word through the ages to this very day. Satan and his minions and the men who serve him have striven mightily to pollute it, pervert it and efface it, but the Word of God stands like a mighty fortress invulnerable and unassailable.

The Bible was given to mankind for his instruction and we ignore it at our peril. Men can laugh at it, scoff at and denigrate the words thereof and denounce it as myth and superstitious nonsense, but that will not erase any of God’s works, it will not circumvent His control over all of nature and current events nor will it prevent every last prophetic word of the Bible from being carried out. God holds the wisdom of men in derision; man’s every prideful worldly self-centered work is as foolishness to Him.

God’s wrath is poised to be poured out upon this world with a fullness of fury and the United States will be the first to fall, while its English speaking allies will either fall simultaneously or succumb to similar judgment in quick succession. This nation has fallen into a depth of depravity unparalleled in our history. It is not necessary to enumerate our sins they are well known. The perverseness of the minds of the people sickens the soul. Government supported vice is rampant, and the people are of a corrupt mind and their hearts are continually fixed on evil. The killing of millions of babies is sanctioned and protected by government decree, as is sexual perversion and various other vices.

“Our feet run to evil, and we make haste to shed innocent blood; our thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in our paths. The way of peace we do not know, and there is no justice in our ways; we have made for ourselves crooked paths.”

Will we change or will we fall?

We have watched trickles of judgments turn into creeks and then into rivers as the country is beset by one disaster after another. Each calamity falls hard upon the heels of another. Coastal cities and states are devastated and ravaged by storms of unprecedented fury. An entire state is set afire by a statewide electrical storm of historical significance and subterranean rumblings portend the soon coming of catastrophic earthquakes. Hundreds of thousands of acres of the heartland are scourged by floods and communities from coast to coast are shredded and torn apart by monster tornadoes.

Unbridled and illegal immigration has destroyed social cohesiveness and injected racial hatreds and dissention into the nation. Crime is rampant, diseases of new and varied kinds are burgeoning and the health of the people is being destroyed by chemical concoctions pushed by the pharmaceutical reprobates in their quest for astronomical sums of money, and the same are promoted by the medical community and celebrity and media shills for the same reason.

Our country is totally bankrupt and in hock for billions of dollars to foreign nations. Our industrial complex has been dismantled by venal corporate elites and moved to foreign shores, and our economy and currency have been decimated and trashed by the treacherous internationalist agents for a new world order.

We have been delivered into the hands of a now fascist government and every last one of our government institutions is corrupt to the bone and oppressively controlling. Government officials meet clandestinely to plan for martial law and the incarceration of dissident citizens to insulate themselves from possible uprisings over their treasonous acts. The pride of our power as been destroyed, and those to whom the deluded citizens of this country have entrusted their security are seemingly moronic blockheads who blunder into wars, or precipitate wars between other nations, by their obtuse and dim-witted activities. They have no concept of the military strength of those who they provoke and grossly over estimate their own nation’s capabilities both militarily and economically.

In short we have been set up by our own iniquity for total destruction.

Prior to modern times it was relatively easy for scoffers of God’s Word to ridicule Biblical prophecy. It was they said physically impossible for a mark to be implanted into the hand or forehead that would either enable or disable ones ability to carry out commerce or control absolutely a person’s access to the necessities of life. And who could conceive of a power that could instantly dissolve the eyeballs in their sockets, the tongue in the mouth and melt the flesh from the bones. It was they said such silliness that argued that the Bible was a work of fiction or at the very least a collection of mythological tales. Modern science, which is worshipped over God today, has brought all that is prophesied in the Bible to the capability of becoming reality. No longer can God’s prophecies be looked upon as science fiction. Fiction they are not and we are about to learn this the hard way.

We, in this country are perilously close to the end. The concluding event of a long line of corrections at God’s hand will be nuclear destruction. At a time when we least expect it nuclear devastation will rain down upon our cities just as it did upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki and our land will be made desolate. Such a fate is only inevitable if we fail to turn to God with true humility and sorrow and beg His forgiveness and plead for His deliverance. It’s not too late, not yet.

“But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.” 1 Thessalonians 5:1-4

Our Prognosis Is Terminal

Our Prognosis Is Terminal

By Jim R. Schwiesow

The Covenant News ~ July 16, 2008

“Whatever we once were, we’re no longer just a Christian nation; we are a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation and a nation of non-believers… — Barack Hussein Obama

“Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked. Part of it’s because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right” –Barack Hussein Obama

And Therein Lies The Crux Of The Demise Of The United States

The United States has entered into the terminal stage of its final days not only as a world power, but also as a sovereign independent nation. It is with wonderment and a bit of mystification that one notes that the Eternal has used an agent of the new world order, a godless secularist purveyor of the universalistic doctrines of occultist origins to announce to all of this nation, and to the nations of the world, the sole and precipitating cause of the fall from grace of one of the most historically powerful nations to ever exist. Yet, He has done just that by provoking the previously referenced words to fall from the mouth of no less than Barak Hussein Obama, an unlikely prophet indeed – a pagan, but an altogether unwitting emissary of Almighty God as evidenced by the accuracy of his words.

We are indeed not a Christian nation and have not been a Christian nation for nigh onto a generation, hence the steady and ever escalating decent into the subterraneous kingdom of Satan the god of this world and the titular head of the United States today.

The ascendancy in this nation of heathen religions, Christian denominational endorsed universalism, and globalist economics, politics, and culture foreshadows an ultimate deliverance of the nation unto end time events that will exceed the mental pictures of even the most discerning of Biblical scholars. We are destined to meet and exceed the fate of the old-testament nations that spurned the God of Creation, declined His Word, denied His power and prostrated themselves before false gods. Hard upon the fiery fall of the United States those who have survived the holocaust will be delivered into the hands of foreign enemies and in such captivity will await the final struggles and demise of the one world satanic kingdom, a seemingly fitting fate for a nation and a people that delivers its live babies into the hands of murdering executioners as a sacrifice to the god of hedonism.

Despite the claims that the elitists and our government have carried out the pursuit of their one world agenda clandestinely one would have to be on another planet to not understand that the supposed intrigues are not intrigues at all, but that the rapidly progressing agendum is being carried out openly with an impudent in your face aggressiveness. The agents of a godless society and a satanic one-world order have correctly discerned that they have nothing to fear from the drones that are completely occupied with the pursuit of their hedonistic pleasures and lined up like hogs at a trough for government handouts. We are a completely ignorant people – deluded to the core – and have been combed over for a susceptibility to the carefully planned inducements by the elites to buy our acquiescence to whatever will further their ultimate goals.

A people without God have no spiritual discernment and therefore have no wisdom. We clamor after the academicians and the so-called super intelligent and think their works brilliant. Yet everything that they turn their hand to carries the seeds of our ultimate destruction. God has drawn a veil between their conceptions and the ultimate outcome of their mind creations. Since they believe that God is an imaginary being or a senile and benevolent oracular and that they are the ultimate intelligence, gods unto themselves, they tamper with that which has been designed by an unlimited spiritual mind; the mind that created the Universe and all that is in the Universe including the Earth and every living creature upon the Earth.

We regress all the while that we think we progress. The Almighty is allowing the people of this nation to self-destruct and given the delusion that is upon our people it is evident that we are well along the road to self-annihilation, there will be no redemption from such save a spiritual awakening and an abject repentance and atonement at foot of the thrown of our eternal God, the Father and the Son.

We labor under a heavy yolk that has been placed upon our neck, with God’s Acquiescence, by our now fascist government, a government under the auspices of an unrestrained totalitarian president and an equally totalistic congress comprised of a single-minded collaborate party of two labels; all of which is controlled by the international corporatists. Once we had a government of and by the people, but our government has been remodeled so as to coordinate the machinery to impose the will of the state upon the people. A carefully crafted neo-fascist political platform has systematically negated constitutional protections and is yet boldly stealing the pitiful vestiges of what remains of our liberties.

The transformation of our political office holders and bureaucratic civil employees from servants of the people to social ideologues has been a gift to the elitists of the industrial and financial complex who are able to buy the loyalty of congressional incumbents and their bureaucratic agents in exchange for support of the heretical social goals of entrenched legislators and their slavish cohorts. Neocon operatives, as servants of the new order, pave the way for these internationalist corporate fascists who are now in the catbird’s seat and well situated to carry out their agenda; wars are their bread and butter, a way for them to realize huge financial excesses and to consolidate their control over world resources. They are an anathema to freedom and individual liberties, and their control of the political processes of a nation with a still formidable, but rapidly diminishing, military has enabled for them huge gains in regard to world control. They have no loyalties and are worldly-minded. National allegiances mean nothing to them as is evidenced by their totally unaffectionate abandoning of the United States as a location for their enterprises. They are the ultimate parasite and will not be satiated until they have consumed their hosts and sit at the foot of a world throne of Satan.

Many contend that it is these – of whom I have just written – who are the causes of the destructive elements that are upon us. They strive mightily to engage others to unite in programs, and to collaborate in activities, to rid the nation of social and governmental rogues, the deceitful scoundrels who oppress us, steal our freedoms and deliver us unto the satanic lusts of those of the new world order. They seem not to comprehend that it is the people – a godless and perverted people – of an iniquitous and degenerate mind that are perfectly and utterly responsible for the deterioration of our system and our society, and for the degenerates who rule over us. These, the megalomaniacal oppressors who suppress our freedoms, steal our dignity and consign us to the dung heap of humanity are of our own creation and are simply the first in a long line of afflictions that will rapidly fall upon us.

Our Sovereign God has moved aside and has turned us over to the consequences of our own iniquities. Our simple carnal minds harbor the seeds of self-destruction, we are our own worst enemy and all that befalls us is of our own making. We have been given over to Satan the god of this world, the old serpent, who is the epitome of evil and a venomous hater of mankind; our fate will not be kind. Only He who loves us has the power to save us, hallowed be His name.

“And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate. And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me; Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins. And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.” –Leviticus 18-25
