Presidential Nominee Chuck Baldwin and Party Founder Howard Phillips
MISSOURI VIEWPOINTS
Less than an hour after being nominated for President of the United States by the Constitution Party, Rev. Chuck Baldwin joined us for an interview on "Missouri Viewpoints".
This is his first in-depth television interview following his nomination.
During the discussion, Baldwin answered the "wasted vote" question that is lobbed at third party candidates by saying he hopes to "take votes away from the Republican Party" because "...I some ways, Republicans have been more disastrous" than Democrats in Congress and the White House.
Addressing the war in Iraq, the newly-minted nominee said the war is over and what is happening now is an "occupation force." He pledged to, if elected, begin withdrawing US troops immediately.
Baldwin said illegal immigration is a matter of national security, saying "...sovereignty and security are intricately linked."
Rev. Baldwin also called for the elimination of the departments of Energy and Homeland Security.
The second half of the program featured former Nixon administration official, and Constitution Party founder, Howard Phillips.
Phillips stated that Baldwin’s campaign will benefit from the energy of Ron Paul's supporters and will win more support from the "Ron Paul Revolution" than Bob Barr will if he is nominated by the Libertarian Party.
Pointing out that there is likely more potential well-known "third" party nominees this year -- former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney on the Green Party ticket, former Congressman Bob Barr potentially on the Libertarian Party ticket and an Independent campaign by Ralph Nader - the media "...will have to pay some attention..." to campaigns other than just those of the Republican and Democratic nominees.
