Missouri Residents Exercise First Amendment Rights

COLUMBIA, Missouri -- As Americans celebrate the birth of the nation, it's important to remember the 45-word sentence that begins the Bill of Rights and outlines the five basic civil liberties that are the keystones of American democracy. The freedoms of speech, petition, press, religious expression and assembly are the blueprints for our society. “The First Amendment was written because at America's inception, citizens demanded a guarantee of their basic freedoms,” according to the First Amendment Center’s Web site.
