BERGEN COUNTY, NJ -- The Police Chief of Bergen County, New Jersey, is the latest authority figure to endorse human ID-chip implants. Jack Schmidig, the county's most esteemed officer, has been injected in the arm with a VeriChip implantable ID-chip; the company that makes the chips reported Friday. The chip transmits a unique 16-digit ID number via radio frequency. The makers of VeriChip are encouraging hospitals to use the technology to instantly retrieve patients' medical records and reduce errors in treatment.
