Dobson's Sodomite Endorsement
New Proof That Dobson Backs Marital Rights for Gays
To: National Desk
COLORADO SPRINGS, Co., March 8/Covenant News Wire Service/ -- Dr. Paul Cameron, widely published researcher and Chairman of the Family Research Institute, today presented new evidence to challenge Dr. James Dobson’s denial that he supported giving homosexuals special rights previously reserved to married couples.
In reply to Cameron’s earlier charges, Focus on the Family issued a February 8 press release quoting Dr. Dobson as follows: “‘I’ve never endorsed any bill granting gay partners legal rights currently reserved for married couples,’ Dobson told his radio audience. ‘That is sheer nonsense.’”
In reply, Cameron today released the following statement:
“Now there can be no mistake about it: Dr. Dobson supports legislation (S.B. 166) that would give marital rights to homosexuals.
“In a last-minute move, perhaps to make his bill more attractive to gays, Senator Shawn Mitchell amended it to give cohabiting homosexuals survivor benefits under Workman’s Compensation -- benefits exclusively reserved for the married under existing law.”
Cameron noted that Section 4. 8-41-501 of the code governing Workman’s Compensation limits survivor benefits to “[w]idow or widower,” “minor children of the deceased under the age of 18 years,” and, under certain circumstances, “minor children of the deceased who are eighteen years or over.” Thus, Cameron said, Workman’s Comp benefits go only to surviving spouses and children.
“If Senator Mitchell’s bill becomes law,” he said, “survivor benefits will be extended to homosexual partners as though they were ‘wholly dependent’ upon the deceased. This is more than unjust, it’s insane.”
Cameron pointed out that Jim Pfaff -- who represented Dr. Dobson when the Committee on Business, Labor and Technology took up the amended bill – testified that: “We at Focus on the Family strongly endorse this bill.”
“To summarize,” Cameron said, “Survivor benefits under Workman’s Compensation were designed to protect widows, widowers, and children in the event of a fatal accident. Dr. Dobson supports extending those rights to gay couples, as well as to certain other cohabiting adults. I suppose he intends for Coloradans to pick up the tab for this costly extension of coverage.
“Cohabiting homosexuals tend to be young. Widows and small children need such benefits. But why should the rest of us pay to support young gays for the rest of their lives? It doesn’t make sense to burden the Workman’s Comp system further in order to please the gay rights movement.”
