Keep Christ In Christmas!
"Bah, Humbug," says Daddy
Daddy saw the sign the other day, in front of a church, just as all of you
have at one time or another:"Keep Christ in Christmas."
Sounds so nice. Of course the intended message is to encourage a few
thoughts of what is supposed to be the "Reason for the Season." Which is not
exactly what we and the other 99 million people at the malls have on our
little minds most of the time.
In our collective consciousness, there is a politically correct nativity
scene: a little baby Jesus, all meek and mild; maybe sort of a poor and
homeless baby-type Jesus for the masses. Not too hard to embrace, not too
threatening. Certainly not exclusive. Not judgmental. A nice,
pat-him-on-his-little-head kind of "King of Kings." Who only as a sort of
sideline was involved in creating the universe, authoring its laws, and
holding it all together. Maybe he did this later, after he grew up...
So, while we can all enjoy this moment of reflection and certainly
benefit from a few days of thinking of others... if we asked Jesus what He
thought was the way we should think of Him, what would He say?
In the cradle, or on the Cross? In creation -- or above and beyond,
before and behind it all?
Maybe He would be screaming, "Don't box me up in your tidy little holiday
-- let Me out of the cage you made for Me -- honor Me not with ordering all
your gifts on-line and on-time, but by ordering your lives and your
governments according to My Law."
Have a Merry Christmas, all year long!
Daddy.
