Diversity of Guilt

Dear Daddy-O:

You honky! I've been keeping up with your stuff. Your bigoted defense of white man's institutions, including his religion, just burns me up!

400 years of slavery is gonna take a lot more than a little affirmative action to fix. You and all your white brothers are still guilty of living off the sweat and toil of the slaves your relatives kept here just a few generations ago.

Can't you just up and confess that you know it's the truth?

No Man's Slave

Dear No:

Guilty? Me? Nah. Not in feeling (which bugs you) nor in facts (of which you are ignorant). Now, as for some of my white ancestors -- maybe they have a problem -- talk it over with them when you join them in the next life.

Each of us living has quite enough of our personal sins with which to deal, without bearing sins of our long dead ancestors!

But, if you insist on going back a while, why don't you go on back to the history that was taking place before Kunte Kinte was put on the boat. What went on -- and who were the people who rounded up, betrayed and/or sold millions of their relatives into slavery? Who in one way or another enabled a handful of traders and boat captains to ship millions of black Africans to the New World -- as slaves? A cash crop.

I bet there is quite a story there, don't you? One that Hollywood seems to have missed so far.

Tell you what, get a film company to do the story. I will play an evil slave ship captain. I will do it for free, if you will play the part of a tribal chief who raids a village and captures a bunch of other black folk and sells them to the middleman (maybe he's a Moslem?) who brings them to my ship for transport. You get to play the part of the richest guy in the film! With as many wives as you want!

Then we can all sit down afterward and reflect how this whole thing happened only because a lot of different cultures participated willingly.

Wow, that's DIVERSITY at work!

Can you handle the guilt?

Didn't think so.

Daddy.
