Tyranny and Good Intentions The Danger of Being Sincerely Wrong
By Al Cronkrite The Covenant News ~ July 02, 2007
On this site the Chicago Tribune lists eleven foreign correspondents that live, work, and report from foreign locations. Their backgrounds are varied; some graduated from Harvard, Northwestern University was the springboard for a couple, University of Illinois, and McGill were also sources, some graduated from small colleges with little name recognition, and some had no college at all.
Foreign correspondents for major newspapers are generally smart and talented. They are often rotated to different locations giving them an inordinate perspective of world affairs and making them valued assets for individual interviews and round table discussions. Skilled interviewers can often glean new and interesting information about foreign countries by patiently delving into their wealth of knowledge.
Brian Lamb interviewed Evan Osnos on a C-Span week-end broadcast. Osnos is a second generation foreign correspondent educated at Harvard. He is currently the Bureau Chief for the Chicago Tribune in Beijing. Having spent several years in the Middle-East he has seen his share of strife.
The obvious excitement he has for his job in China was evident throughout the one hour interview.
China is like the obstetrics department in a hospital; there is still sickness and death around but new birth is going on and the cry of a bouncing new baby is a delight.
During the mid-Twentieth Century China was described as a Balkanized, backward Communist nation barely able to provide for its huge population. Descriptions were mostly of darkness and deprivation. Today, China has a burgeoning, vibrant, aggressiveness that promises to catapult it to world prominence. To the youthful brilliance of a reporter like Evan Osnos the excitement is consuming. He has been educated in elite institutions that have ignored nationalism and emphasized internationalism. His mind is filled with visions of change that will make the world a more prosperous and peaceful place. He likes what he sees and his approving enthusiasm is contagious.
Brilliant students live in an atmosphere of adulation that is foreign to their classmates. They are noticed early by teachers and given preferential treatment in a manner similar to outstanding athletes. Those that show interest in internationalism or politics are often mentored and supplied with aid and direction by the Rockefeller Foundation.
Young agents of change adjust quicker than their elders. Their acceptance of internationalism has been fertilized by programs like the International Baccalaureate, a program for the college bound that originated in Geneva, Switzerland. It is taught in over 1500 schools in 125 different countries. The international emphasis is quickly absorbed by young students who readily accept a political system quite different from the one familiar to their parents.
The natural balance between the young and the old allows the exuberant new ideas of youth to be filtered through the wisdom of age. This balance would serve humanity well if not disrupted by alien agendas. Unfortunately, in United States it has been lost in a government school system that allows our most talented youth to be corrupted by an amoral agenda that includes world government.
Eve was first deceived, then Adam disobeyed God’s command by eating the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The conversation with Eve went like this, Serpent: “Has God indeed said, ’You shall not eat of every tree of the Garden?’”. Eve: “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the Garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the Garden God has said, ’You shall not eat of it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” Serpent: “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
“So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband and he ate.” Genesis 3:6
The promise of peace, freedom from fear, and prosperity through world government is just as fetching to the vulnerable as the tree that offered enlightenment, good food, and pleasure to the eye. In the same way Eve was convinced to do what God had forbidden, many of our youths and adults have believed the lie that humanistic world government will bring lasting peace and prosperity. Many of them are sincere and full of altruisms.
Adam and Eve must have been quite excited about the prospect of being like God. They had never known evil but the Serpent had convinced them that it was exciting and they were fraught with anticipation. It was a quest for power. Overlaying the nations with world government is a similar quest.
Dispensationalists, worldly secularists, and the unconverted are unable to provide righteous government. The only avenue to righteousness, peace, and prosperity is the one that leads to the mandates of the Creator. The best human thinkers are limited to one perspective and, reasonable as it might seem, it is often wrong. Tyranny is a product of the limited perspective of man being foisted on humanity. Freedom is a product of the omniscient perspective of God being obeyed by His creation.
We tend to provide forgiveness more easily to those who “mean well” than to those who are dastardly on purpose. The forces of evil that are capturing our world might think of themselves as contemporary Robin Hoods. They believe they are bringing the world a better system. On Page 405 of his Memoirs David Rockefeller wrote, “Some even believe we (the Rockefeller family) are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure – one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.” Listen to the voices of internationalism here.
Rockefeller is but one of many humanists who are in agreement. General Colin Powell on the occasion of receiving an award from the United Nations on April 21, 1993 said, "The United Nations will spearhead our efforts to manage the new conflicts (that afflict our world)....Yes the principles of the United Nations Charter are worth our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."
Many good men have been recruited into the ranks of those who believe lasting peace and prosperity are possible with secular world government. Hosts of Christian leaders, belying their rhetoric, have supported presidents who support world government.
The root of much of this support can be found in the intellectual persuasions and the powerful roots of the Council on Foreign Relations. No other single organization has done more to promote internationalism at the expense of the sovereignty and wealth of the United States. Congressman Larry McDonald (killed in a Korean Airlines 747 shot down by the Soviets) said, “The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a one-world government combining super capitalism and Communism under the same tent, all under their control.... Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent."
A few years ago Paul Craig Roberts and Lawrence M. Stratton wrote a best selling book entitled “The Tyranny of Good Intentions”. In it the authors describe some of the mind bending atrocities perpetrated by our government. In a way, the entire world is under the tyranny of good intentions. (I have partially plagiarized their apt title for this article.)
An elitist mindset is the platform for many who support global tyranny. Losing national sovereignty is not popular with citizens who have roots in this nation. Trusted TV newsman Walter Cronkite waited until his retirement to publicly endorse trading sovereignty for peace. Read about it here. Though they may be sincere and believe they are supporting righteousness, many Christian leaders like Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and the late Jerry Falwell have mislead the Body of Christ into supporting horrendous evil. The Council on National Policy has contributed to this agenda. They have ignored honest political candidates who promised change and lent their support to secular globalist candidates. When these elected charlatans failed to support Christians programs they have offered up useless complaints. They have failed to learn from their disastrous mistakes. It is time they repent and urge their naïve followers to repent as well.
Chaos is a direct result of evil. As our nation falls into chaotic disarray and anarchy, the problem is not that its leaders developed illogical programs. It is far more serious than that. The problem is that our leaders were not created to govern themselves and without the immutable legal system God lovingly bestowed on His people they are unable to create a free and prosperous society.
Government might be represented as the serpent and the Christian Church as Adam and Eve. Humanity is again faced with the prospect of pervasive oppression in the form of messianic, humanistic government.
Sadly, this evil paradigm is being supported by millions of Christians who should know better. The disaster that is about to consume us is a result of the deception of the Church of Jesus Christ by the dark forces of evil. Someone recently accused me of writing as if government was the answer to our problems. I hope I have made it plain that government is a response to our behavior. Freedom is a result of obedience to God’s ordinances, captivity is a result of disobedience. Righteousness in Christians and the Church of Jesus Christ will result in freedom and prosperity. Evil leadership and compliant Christians will result in chaos and then tyranny. Falling under the power of pagans is one of God’s methods of punishment. Over and over the Bible records captivity as a punishment for pandemic sin.
Support for world government originated and has been sustained by secular organizations. Though the idea is rooted in antiquity the unique United States version began in earnest at the beginning of the Twentieth Century during the Wilson Administration. In an interesting history of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), published on their webpage, (Read the entire article here.) Peter Grose, a member, former senior fellow, and former executive editor of the magazine writes that it began as “An Inquiry” instituted by President Wilson’s adviser Edward House and involved the gathering of a group of scholars who met “discreetly in a hideaway at 155th Street and Broadway in New York City, to assemble the data they thought necessary to make the world safe for democracy”.
“We are skimming the cream of the younger and more imaginative scholars,” declared Walter Lippmann, the 28-year-old Harvard graduate who recruited the scholars and managed the Inquiry in its formative phase. “What we are on the lookout for is genius—sheer, startling genius, and nothing else will do.”
From the beginning the meetings were held in secret and were maligned by the error of equating intellectual ability with wisdom. It was a conspiracy.
There are gaps in the story Peter Grose provides. Read another version here.
Good intentions do not righteousness make. Egocentric behavior that results from the deification of the creature provides a showcase for the true stature of man. Man is a created being made in the image of his creator to behave within the boundaries the Creator has outlined.
Theories on the evolution of man produced by the human mind elevate the creature onto the throne of the Creator; they are not only implausible and demeaning but always impractical.
World government will not and cannot succeed. It will end in disaster!
“There is a way that seems right to a man but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12
