Political Addiction Rampant Strife And Malfeasance
By Al Cronkrite The Covenant News ~ May 03, 2006
An inordinate loyalty to a political party is a form of idol worship. In some ways it is even an addiction. All one need do is listen to the dialogue between disagreeing parties within a single political unit. Under the umbrella of perceived righteousness professing Christians become like junk yard dogs.
The Kingdom of God cannot be advanced by the discord and vituperation that characterizes politics. There is only One True God; the secular Hegelian Dialectic does not function in singularity. Competition, strife, and human opinion must be kept to a minimum if God’s announced agenda is ever to become a part of our national life.
There has been a big flap in the Constitution Party and it appears that a revolution of sorts may be the upshot. The Pro-Life God has overtaken consensus and several states may be planning to disaffiliate. The flap developed over membership of the State of Nevada with its Mormon pro-life platform that excludes the lives of babies conceived by rape or incest, or that are badly deformed. Although they had considerable support, the Christian Pro-Lifers failed in their efforts to have Nevada removed from the party. Howard Phillips sided with the Mormons and the State of Nevada. If it survives, the Constitution Party will become (maybe it already was) a big tent, pragmatic political organization with some members at odds with its platform.
I supported the inept efforts of Pat Buchanan to mount the Reformed Party horse and ride to victory. The party and Buchanan’s efforts were thwarted by failure to gain consensus and the Reformed Party went down in flames. It appears the Constitution Party may be poised to follow.
From a Godly perspective American Christians approach to politics (my own included) has been abysmal. In the first place most Americans have little or no understanding of proper theology and second some of the few that do frantically pursue secular political parties with platforms that contain only a few of the tenets God seeks. The vast heresy of Dispensationalism has neutralized the bulk of American Christianity by funneling their efforts into a vain and sinful support of the illegitimate State of Israel while at the same time banishing God’s standard of behavior by denying His Laws. They complain about sin in government and in society but since they have forsaken God’s Laws they are without specific alternative and can only complain vaguely. It is as if most Christians believe that government is outside the realm of God’s creation and must be conducted secularly.
Even members of political parties that have righteous platforms fall into questionable practices. The Constitution Party has a fine sounding platform but if one were put in the position of Old Testament Job and God were to really question, there are portions that would be difficult to defend. For instance, how does one justify multi-religionism (polytheism) with the First Commandment. We worship a jealous God who commands that we have no other Gods before Him. Does this not apply to government? How can our government be pleasing to the One True God when it allows our nation to be sullied by religions that worship other gods? How can we pray that He will bless us when we disobey Him?
I cannot put my finger on the exact vehicle but I seem to remember that Dr. Rousas Rushdoony recommended that rather than trying to reform secular institutions Christians should scrap them and rebuild to God’s specifications.
We need to get back to the basics. There is One Exclusive God and He has One Set of Mandates and one set of principles for the conduct of government. Our Trinitarian God is singular; not pragmatic and not competitive. He desires that we worship Him to the exclusion of all other gods and above all that we obey His Commandments. He does not have a Constitution. He is not up for election. Jesus is vested with the responsibility of ruling the nations. He is our Lord and King. He waits on our submission.
Addressing the First Commandment Dr. R. J. Rushdoony writes,
“The premise of polytheism is that we live in a multiverse, not a universe, that a variety of law-orders and hence lords exist, and that man cannot therefore be under one law except by virtue of imperialism. Modern legal positivism denies the existence of any absolute; it is hostile, because of its relativism, to a concept of a universe and of a universe of law. Instead, societies of men exist, each with its order of positive law, and each order of law lacks any absolute or universal validity. The law of Buddhist states is seen as valid for Buddhist nations, the law of Islam for Muslim states, the law of pragmatism for humanistic states, and the laws of Scripture for Christian states, but none, it is held, have the right to claim that their law represents truth in any absolute sense. This, of course, militates against the Biblical declaration that God’s order is absolutely binding on men and nations.”
While our Savior waits for our submission millions of His chosen people support Globalism by voting for a President who along with his family and the secular Jewish power structure have advanced and promoted the evil multiculturalism of the New World Order.
The family, the Church, and the Government function in different spheres but they must function under the mandates of the same Creator. Back to basics must include getting back to the principles and mandates God has given us in His Word. There may be wiggle room on minor issues but the Laws God gave to Moses are the standard for righteousness.
Without obedience society exists in chaos. When God’s mandates are forsaken and man substitutes his opinions the resulting chaos must be stemmed by human force. Tyranny is a sibling of humanistic government.
When political leaders with the stature of Illinois Representative Henry Hyde pronounce the Constitution “anachronistic” their behavior is not only criminal from a law breaking standpoint but it drags the entire nation down as well. Washington is infested with arrogant politicians that ignore the Constitution. The same disdain for the Constitution is also widely accepted in our highest court.
Obedience is the major theme throughout God’s Word. God has emphasized obedience because He knows without obedience humans will destroy themselves. Obedience provides order and without order society is doomed. Secular order is better than no order but the ultimate order and freedom is provided by obedience to God’s Laws.
Getting back to the basics would require that freedom of religion be replaced with the pronouncement that we are an exclusively Christian nation where foreign gods and foreign religions are not welcome.
Hold it! Have I lost my mind? Am I advocating that America become a theocracy like the Islamic nations? No, but I am advocating that America become a Christian nation. It was Jesus, Himself, who claimed He was the ONLY door to the Father. I am advocating the we accept Jesus as our King and allow Him to rule under the legal mandates He claimed to have fulfilled. Freedom of religion is an invitation to polytheism and our Lord commands exclusive rights.
Christian support for King Jesus would bring an end to membership in political parties and would allow Christians to support the only righteous King and the legal system He drafted for us several millenniums ago.
As Dr. R. J. Rushdoony so vividly taught us, Law forms the religious base of society. It is not particular political parties that would guarantee the restoration of American society but the acceptance of God’s Laws as the platform of the nation.
Christians need to dispense with supporting quasi-humanistic political parties and rally around The One True God, His mandates, and His principles of righteous government.
