The Company We Keep
Aiding The Enemy

John Stuckey had consumed about half of his second dry martini when the young, red haired, swarthy looking man next to him asked if he wanted to approach the two unattached girls sitting in a booth behind them. John agreed. With his new friend, Vince, he got up, walked over to the booth and asked if they could buy the two young women a drink and join them at the table. The girls agreed, the waiter was summoned, the drinks were served, and the four began a polite conversation. Vince seemed attracted to the brunette named Nancy who was at first a little tentative but then began to steadily follow Vince's queries. John picked up with the blonde whose name was Veronica. She spoke plainly and frankly without inhibition and exhibited a mature personality that John admired. It was early evening and John invited Veronica to dinner at a small restaurant he knew across town. She accepted. Vince and Nancy decided to stay for a few more drinks.

Following good food and good talk at the small restaurant, John drove Veronica home arriving before midnight. It was an enjoyable evening and his request for another date was accepted. He retired with quiet satisfaction.

The next morning the headline on John's morning paper told of the brutal rape of a patron at the same bar where he had met Veronica. The rapist was described as a swarthy, red headed man.

I relate that little bit of fiction for a reason.

Of his Anti-War speech Llewellyn Rockwell writes, "The opportunity to make a difference in favor of freedom should not be passed up, even if one's associates have a mixed-up ideology. After all, most ideologies these days are mixed up, and have been for the better part of a century."

Butler Shaffer in an adjoining piece writes "My wife and I attended a talk by British parliamentarian George Galloway, given at a Presbyterian church within walking distance from my law school in Los Angeles. Arriving early, we had good seats for what proved to be a well-attended program. Galloway's appearance was organized by various socialist organizations, and so it was neither surprising nor upsetting that leftist banners, t-shirts, buttons, and the one-paged printed handouts were in abundance."

I respectfully disagree.

Joining in an effort to accomplish a primary goal with those whose ultimate objective is aberrant is tantamount to aiding the very thing one hates.

In my little piece of fiction John and Vince teamed up to pick up the two girls. John's objective was savory, Vince's was not. John's failure to realize that Vince's ultimate motive might be quite different from his own caused his unwitting complicity in an evil deed.

As resistance to the imperialistic plans of our government progresses those who get involved in resisting must be very careful with whom they join forces for if they are successful, the result of their effort could be quite different from that which they envisioned.

Revolutionaries of several stripes wait with bated breath for the turmoil resulting from the overthrow of a government. Butler Shaffer lists the array "Liberals, conservatives, socialists, Republicans, libertarians, anarchists, Democrats, and Marxists, are discovering that the integrity of their souls can no longer withstand the burden of their support for wars against the innocent." Unfortunately, some of the souls are not endowed with integrity but instead are bent on commandeering the incipient chaos for their own malevolent purposes.

Revolutionaries know what they want to accomplish and often those who are the lightening rods of the endeavor do not. Government creation through revolution often results in something worse than the one being replaced and in the process hundreds of thousands of innocent citizens lose their lives.

I read the columns on Lou Rockwell's internet page because they are well written and often point to the continuous egregious power leaps executed by our Federal Government. However, missing is the fundamental doctrine of Original Sin. The assumption that human nature is essentially good and that without the immutable Laws of God can through reason establish an orderly and righteous social order is fraught with danger and potential disaster.

Government is formed to prevent the societal chaos that followed Hurricane Katrina and the disaster in New Orleans.

Eugène Delacroix describes the disillusionment of William Wadsworth as he witnessed the progression of the French Revolution.

"...and never heads enough..."
Domestic carnage, now filled the whole year
With feast-days, old men from the chimney-nook,
The maiden from the busom of her love,
The mother from the cradle of her babe,
The warriors from the field - all perished - all -
Friends, enemies, of all parties, ages, ranks,
Head after head, and never heads enough
For those that bade them fall.

William Wordsworth

"Wordsworth came to suffer the disillusion of young revolutionaries in all ages who discover that in shedding an ocean of blood they have more often than not done more harm than good. If the French revolution was the end of monarchy and aristocratic privilege and the emergence of the common man and democratic rights, it was also the beginnings of modern totalitarian government and large-scale executions of "enemies of the People" by impersonal government entities (Robespierre's "Committee of Public Safety"). This legacy would not reach its fullest bloom until the tragic arrival of the German Nazis and Soviet and Chinese communists of the 20th century."

Lasting peace and order must begin in the hearts of citizens, when it is imposed from the top down a measure of the "Promised Land" principle must be used to make it effective. Annihilating the opposition is the only road to real peace and that road is flooded with perennial fear.

America needs a change of heart from top to bottom. It does not need another French Revolution. Those of us that seek the change of Godly dominion must be careful that our compatriots seek the same result.
