'The Light of the World'
Justice, Good Works, and Redeeming the Social Orderby Christopher J. Ortiz / The Chalcedon Foundation:
"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14. According to the book of Revelation, the ultimate purpose is a realized city (Rev. 21–22), not a realized church in the institutional sense. For those bent on the establishment of liturgy over the establishment of justice, their conception of John's apocalypse places emphasis upon incense, prayers, chanting, and angels. I find in this hermeneutic a strange twist on literalism where the practical nature of the Kingdom as proclaimed by Christ is lost in the sea of patristic speculation.
