After attack Najaf calls truce
Politics
In early morning darkness U.S. war planes unleashed an attack on targets in Najaf. The air strikes shook the ground just after a U.S. artillery bombardment and cannon fire from an AC-130 gunship rattled the Iraqi city of 500,000 whose main weapons are AK-47 assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades. Soon after U.S. forces pounded the city with multiple attacks American tanks and troops advanced closer. Then the governor of Najaf announced a 24-hour truce would begin upon the arrival of a 'Grand Ayatollah' later today.
