STARKE -- Paul Hill was executed by lethal injection Wednesday at Florida State Prison for the 1994 slayings of abortionist John Britton and volunteer clinic escort James Barrett. The soft-spoken Hill, tall, pale and with receding blond hair, spent Wednesday morning saying goodbye to his wife, 18-year-old son, parents and two sisters, having met earlier this week with his two daughters, age 15 and 13. He ordered a last meal of charbroiled sirloin steak, broccoli with hollandaise sauce, baked potato with sour cream and butter, salad, orange sherbet and iced tea. He was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m. EDT.

The Rev. Donald Spitz, adviser to convicted murderer Paul Hill, who killed an abortionist and a clinic escort, criticized pro-life organizations for their unwillingness to support the former Presbyterian minister as he awaited a Wednesday execution. "They're absolute hypocrites," Spitz said. "They prefer dead babies to the dead abortionist. If you have to choose between live babies or a live abortionist, I'd choose the live babies. They choose dead babies and a live abortionist," he added. "They seem to have a total disregard for the babies they're trying to protect."

Miami Herald -- As police outside Florida State Prison set up the tightest security since the execution of serial killer Ted Bundy in 1989, abortion-doctor killer Paul Hill spent his next-to-last day on earth today doing what he has done for the past nine years: defending his shotgun murder of Dr. John Britton outside a Pensacola abortion clinic as justifiable homicide. ''I expect my soul will enter the presence of the Lord,'' Hill said when asked what he expected to happen when he is put to death by lethal injection at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Age, Australia -- The expected death of anti-abortionist Paul Hill today may turn him into a dangerous martyr, reports John-Thor Dahlburg from Miami. He told a TV audience on the Phil Donahue show that killing an abortion doctor was as justifiable as murdering Hitler. Then, one July morning, he took a pump-action shotgun and shot a doctor and his escort dead outside a women's clinic in Florida. Today, Paul Hill is scheduled to die in Florida State Prison. The former Christian minister, a murderer in the eyes of the state but a hero and a future martyr to some, will become the first convicted killer of an abortion provider to be executed in the United States.

Tampa Tribune, FL -- Abortion-rights groups worry Hill's execution will incite those who share his belief that violence in defense of unborn children is justified. Acting Director Frances Farrill, of the Sarasota Women's Health Center, said she has no idea what will happen after Hill's death. ``We have our usual security. As far as fear goes, no, we aren't afraid.'' Groups that oppose the death penalty have pointed to the prospect of violence. ``We're very concerned that Paul Hill's call for violence may be picked up by any person to whom God speaks,'' said Abe Bonowitz, the head of Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. ``That could be prevented. It should be.'' Tampa police Capt. Paul Driscoll said his officers will conduct extra patrols at clinics and pay close attention to what is happening statewide.

Memorandum for the Secretary of State: "As set forth in
the March 28, 2001, memorandum, this policy applies to certain assistance provided to foreign nongovernmental organizations. Such organizations do not include multilateral organizations that are associations of governments. This policy
shall not apply to foreign assistance furnished pursuant to the United States Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Act of 2003 (Public Law 108-25)."
"This White House memo is another example of how president Bush is emphatically pro-abortion," said Jim Rudd, Editor of The Covenant News. "All pro-life Americans should be angry about the lies and deceit being perpetrated by groups telling Christians that this baby murderer in the White House is 'pro-life' in order to get their votes."

She contends her constitutional right to an abortion was obstructed by a Terrebonne Parish jail requirement that she hire a lawyer and get a court order authorizing the procedure.
