Arizona Bill Would Ban Embryo Sales, Human-Animal 'Hybrids'
A bill working its way through the state Legislature sounds like a science-fiction novel, with its wording to prevent the creation of "human-animal hybrids." And although science has yet to produce mythical creatures such as Minotaurs and mermaids, supporters say the bill is a pre-emptive effort to ban human cloning, human-embryo research and the creation of human-animal hybrids. Opponents say the legislation is meant to frighten and confuse. On its face, they say, the bill could restrict fertility procedures and prevent research. But they also believe it's a bigger-picture step by the state's anti-abortion movement toward defining an embryo as a person. A national movement to establish the rights of "personhood" for embryos has emerged based on the theory that doing so would unravel the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe vs. Wade abortion-rights ruling that a fetus is not legally a person.Click Here For The Full Story......
