Rival Groups Set for Bitter Clashes as Tiller Goes on Trial

Campaigners will face off outside a court today as America's most notorious abortion doctor goes on trial, accused of illegally terminating 19 viable fetuses. The sight of George Tiller in the dock is considered by some as a victory in their fight against late-term abortion, in which fetuses may be terminated beyond the point at which they are deemed capable of surviving outside the womb. Dubbed "Dr Tiller the baby-killer" by his foes, he is estimated to have overseen a total of 60,000 abortions at his state-licensed clinic in Wichita, Kansas.
