Toilet-Mom Gets Month in Jail

An eastern Pennsylvania woman will spend at least a month behind bars for leaving her newborn son in a toilet. Twenty-eight-year-old Melissa Regalis was sentenced Friday to one month to one year in Northampton County Prison after pleading guilty to reckless endangerment. Regalis called 911 after giving birth in a bathroom, but police say she refused the dispatcher's instruction to remove the baby from the water. Police say the child's father found the infant sitting in an upright position in the toilet bowl. The baby was treated for hypothermia and an infection.
