George Tiller Hearings To Resume This Week
By Ron Sylvester / The Wichita EagleTwo former Kansas attorneys general and the woman one had an affair with are expected to take the witness stand this week, as court hearings resume in the prosecution of Wichita abortion provider George Tiller. Tiller's legal team is asking Sedgwick County Judge Clark Owens to dismiss 19 misdemeanor charges against the doctor, claiming "outrageous" government conduct by the Kansas Attorney General's Office in investigating the case during the past five years. The hearing began in November but will continue this week because of scheduling conflicts by former attorney general Phill Kline. Kline began investigating Tiller in 2003. Tiller's lawyers claim Kline was bent on prosecuting Tiller at any cost, and even lied to further his investigation.
