Man Gets 6 Years For Baby Assault

COOPERSTOWN -- An Oneonta man who broke an infant's leg last December was sentenced to six years in prison Monday in state Supreme Court of Otsego County. Gary Grant, 34, who pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in October, will be supervised for three years after he is released from prison under terms set out by state Supreme Court Justice Michael Coccoma. According to Otsego County District Attorney John Muehl, Grant's sentence is one year less than the maximum penalty allowed by law for second-degree assault. ``There is no excuse for what he did, and he'll pay for it,'' Muehl said in October after Grant pleaded guilty.
