Lawmakers Consider Tougher Law For Statutory Rape
In Mississippi, any girl 15 years old or younger is not of consenting age for sex. But national statistics show half of all children born to minors are fathered by adult men. That means statutory rape has been committed. State lawmakers say they want to bring those rapists to justice. The committee is working off the simple fact that a girl who is pregnant under the age of fifteen is the victim of a statutory rape and the father, the perpetrator, must be found. "If it is a crime. We want to deter that crime from occurring, then we need to make sure there's a reporting mechanism in place so law enforcement can get that information," said Rep.
