Murder, Abuse Charges Filed In Scalding Death

A mother and her boyfriend were charged Friday with first degree murder and child abuse resulting in the scalding death of a 2-year-old boy. Elijah Archuleta was "ice cold" by the time John Vigil and Isela Reyes-Talamantes took him to the hospital last Friday night, according to a police affidavit. The toddler had severe burns and was pronounced dead a few minutes later. The couple spent 10 hours running errands, shopping, attending Vigil's court appearance in another case and stopping at a fast-food restaurant before they took Elijah to the hospital, the affidavit said.
