Dems' Abortion Regulation Splits Pro-Choice Groups
Can Democrats Regulate the Killing Better than Republicans?
CONCORD -- The Senate voted 14-10 this week against a bill sponsored by 10 Democrats to require extensive counseling for teens who seek an abortion. Supporters saved Senate Bill 527 for interim study, which means it could be revived this session, however unlikely that is. Seacoast lawmakers disagreed among themselves on a mandate that split the larger pro-choice community the same way. Sen. Jackie Cilley, D-Barrington, and Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-Exeter, helped co-sponsor the bill to tell pregnant teens all their options, including having the baby, keeping it or giving it up for adoption.
