Abortion Coercion Bill Passes House Committee

BOISE -- A bill to make it a crime to attempt to force a woman into an abortion gained the approval of the House Health and Welfare Committee on Thursday. The legislation, co-sponsored by Rep. Bob Nonini, R-Coeur d'Alene, was sent to the House floor with a do-pass recommendation on a voice vote that was audibly less than unanimous. House Bill 464 would make coercing a woman to have an abortion a felony if it resulted in a physical injury to the woman. That potential crime, under HB 464's terms, would carry with it maximum prison time of five years, a fine up to $5,000, or both. Read more...
