Arizona Senate Rejects House-Passed Bill on Abortion Consent
The Associated PressThe state Senate has rejected a House-passed bill in which abortion opponents tried again to spell out processes for judges to consider when girls request permission to skip getting parental consent. The vote was 13-to-6, short of the 16 votes needed for passage by the 30-member Senate. The House approved the bill March ninth. Like a version vetoed in 2006 by Governor Napolitano, the bill would have required that a girl requesting a parental-consent exception to clearly prove to the judge that she was sufficiently mature and capable of giving informed consent.
