UNFPA Pledges Support to Fight Against Gender-Based Violence
ZANIS -- The United Nations Population Fund (United Nations Family Planning Association UNFPA) has pledged its support to the Zambia Police Service in efforts aimed at fighting gender-based violence. UNFPA Country Representative Deji Popoola says the stance has been taken in the light of high levels of gender-oriented crimes such as defilement and rape. He observed that gender-based violence was responsible for disharmony in most families. Dr. Popoola said UNFPA is therefore working closely with the VSP in ensuring that Zambians get access to redress when their rights are trampled upon. He has since commended government for putting in place stiffer punishment for sexual offenders.
