Pro-Abortion Regulators Trade Jabs Over 'Right to Know'
By Jim Baron / Pawtucket TimesPROVIDENCE -- Conflicting claims, dueling statistics and an utter lack of common ground on a polarized and intimately emotional issue marked a more than two-hour legislative hearing Wednesday on a bill to require a 24- hour waiting period before a pregnant woman can obtain an abortion. Before the parade of witnesses even began to give their testimony for and against, the House Health, Education and Welfare Committee voted to hold The Women's Right to Know Act for further study, which Chairman Joseph McNamara said keeps the measure alive past legislative deadlines for committee action. Cranston Rep. Peter Palumbo, the prime sponsor, opened the hearing by saying even people who are pro-choice should support the bill. Full story...
