Life or Death Controversy Brewing at University Hospital

A life or death controversy is brewing at the University of Utah Hospital, one that bears striking similarity to the Terri Schiavo case. It has been weeks since 15-year-old Jansen Jones was found in full cardiac arrest at the side of the road, fallen off his bike on his way to Taylorsville High School. Now the teen is caught in a clash of opinions. His mother, estranged for more than five years from Jansen's father, says doctors have told her Jansen won't live off life support. Jansen's heart would stop because of a lack of oxygen the morning he was found. Jansen's brain won't support life; she believes her son should be allowed to die. On the other hand, Jansen's father believes his son has the right to life. He believes his son wants to live, and he'll fight to help him do so. "I believe in a living God, that he can still perform miracles as you want to call it," Jansen's father John Jones said. Posted by Editor at October 27, 2005 10:03 AM
