Protections For Unborn Gain Traction But Not Against Abortion
Momentum appears to be building among state legislators for a bill that would make it a crime to murder or assault an unborn child. The bill, by Rep. Spencer Collier, R-Irvington, passed the House 93-0 in the last session, but was held up by an unrelated filibuster in the Senate and never came up for a vote in that chamber. Collier said he is personally opposed to abortion, 'but' he said his bill is not aimed at stopping that procedure. The bill specifies that the proposed law would not apply to a legal abortion.
