Police Search For Mother After Finding Dead Fetus

NATIONAL CITY -- A dead fetus was found in a jar inside a trash bin early Friday morning and police are trying to find the mother – not to arrest her, but to make sure that she's safe. Police urgently want to talk to the mother of the fetus "to make sure that she's not in any medical distress, just to check her health and safety," the sergeant said. Investigators asked the mother, or anyone who knows the mother, to call the National City Police Department at (619) 336-4411. California law allows a mother to abandon a baby at any medical facility or fire station within three days of the birth.
