WOMEN seeking an abortion should face mandatory counselling followed by a 48-hour cooling-off period, Queensland senator Santo Santoro said yesterday. Senator Santoro said it was wrong to claim that women should have absolute choice about abortions because this ignored the interests of fetuses and their fathers. Senator Santoro has re-opened debate on the controversial subject by circulating a discussion paper to all government MPs which also calls for a standardised national system of collecting data on abortions.
