The man police believe responsible for the murders of his pregnant wife and 11-month-old son has admitted to the crimes and has asked to be put to death. Zachariah Melcher, 27, told police that on the morning of April 16 he strangled his 23-year-old wife Christian Melcher, who was eight months pregnant, and suffocated his 11-month-old son, Zach Jaiden Melcher, by placing a plastic bag over the child's head. Melcher would likely face an initial hearing on Monday afternoon or Tuesday in Clark Circuit Court on three counts of murder.
