A final tally of costs show taxpayers spent $4.13 million for the prosecution of Scott Peterson. It's believed to be the most expensive trial in Stanislaus County history. Included in the costs are the police investigation which totalled $1.55 million, $1.37 million for Stanislaus County prosecutors, $742,000 for court costs and $182,000 for San Mateo County, where the trial actually occurred.
