Bush's RU-486 distribution
Groups Renew Pressure to Bar RU-486RU-486 has become a renewed target for influential pressure groups who want the Food and Drug Administration to suspend its use. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the pills in September 2000. Under the brand name Mifeprex, the pills are distributed by the New York-based Danco Laboratories LLC and sold only to doctors or other clinicians who are trained in their usage. They are now available through doctors' offices or clinics in every state. Since 2000, 280,000 women in the United States have made the choice to have nonsurgical abortions in the first seven to nine weeks of pregnancy. (Editor's note: In 2001, the Bush administration allowed the nationwide distribution and use of RU-486 under each States' existing abortion laws. RU-486 was approved under President Clinton and is being distributed by George W. Bush -- the biggest baby murdering President in the history of the United States.)

Brenda A. Vise, a 38-year-old Hamilton County, Tenn. resident, died on Sept. 12, 2001, the lawsuit alleges, from a massive infection resulting from a ruptured ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, five days after she visited the Knoxville abortion clinic and began taking the RU-486 drug combination.

State Cites Hospital for Not Reporting Woman's Death
LIVERMORE, Calif. - State health officials investigating the case of a young woman who died after a therapeutic drug-induced abortion found that the hospital failed to report the death as an unusual occurrence. The report by the California Department of Health Services also found that Planned Parenthood of Hayward, which prescribed the drug, didn't obtain 18-year-old Holly Patterson's signature on one of three forms required by the clinic. The review also found the clinic didn't give Patterson full information and education on how to administer the drug. Patterson died Sept. 17 of septic shock caused by an inflammation of the uterus.

Six Women Using RU-486 Taken Ill, and Two Died, Letter Says
The company that makes the abortion pill RU-486 has sent a letter informing doctors that six women have developed serious illnesses and two have died after taking the drug to induce abortions. No causal relationship has been established between the drug and the illnesses in any of the cases, the letter said. Three women who took the drug, also known as mifepristone or Mifeprex, in combination with another drug called misoprostol to induce abortion later suffered bleeding caused by rupture of ectopic pregnancies, an abnormally located type of pregnancy that is not terminated by the drug treatment. One woman died.
