Bel Aire: First US City to Outlaw Abortion Signs

Bel Aire, Kansas: 1st US City to Outlaw Abortion Signs
BEL AIRE, Kan. -- Operation Rescue West President Troy Newman faces six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for daring to take the Truth Truck to the public streets of Bel Aire, Kansas, where it has been banned. The Truth Truck is a large panel truck professionally outfitted with billboard-sized graphic abortion images and other pro-life messages. "The Truth Truck has now been outlawed in the first American city ever. Apparently the City of Bel Aire will stop at nothing to make sure that the public never knows the truth about what its resident, abortion profiteer Carrie Klaege, does for a living. This is the rotten fruit of Roe vs. Wade. Babies were first denied their right to life, now we are being denied our right to tell the truth about the tragedy of abortion to the general public," said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue West.

City tickets Truth Truck as a “Portable Sign”
The truth truck's most recent trip was to Bel Aire. Operation Rescue parked it outside a woman’s home, who works at Doctor George Tiller’s clinic where late term babies are killed by abortion. The city of Bel Aire said pro-lifers do not have the right to park what the city calls a portable sign. So, the city cited Operation Rescue West president, Troy Newman. He faces six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Newman says they were singled out. City Attorney Lee Parker says they were simply enforcing the ban. He says it doesn’t matter what the sign says. Newman says the truck faced a similar situation in Leawood, Kan. back in November. He doesn’t plan on backing down. Operation Rescue plans on filing suit against the City of Bel Aire in the next few weeks. But, the city attorney says he’s found three court cases so far that support city rights to enforce portable sign bans.

Work Resumes at Planned Parenthood Site
AUSTIN -- Two months after a contractor boycott shut down work on a Planned Parenthood clinic that will offer abortion services, construction has resumed at the South Austin site. Project planners hope to meet their original fall completion date. Planned Parenthood won't identify the companies working for fear of another telephone and letter writing campaign. The site is surrounded by a fence of orange nylon webbing and work trucks carry no identifying markings. "It's our commitment to protecting the safety and privacy for our team," Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Danielle Tierney said.

Some Activists Want New Law Protecting
Unborn Children When Mother Is Killed

DES MOINES — Anti-abortion activists urged state lawmakers Tuesday to allow Iowa prosecutors to file double-homicide charges against assailants who kill a pregnant woman and her unborn child. Under the “Unborn Victims of Violence Act,’’ Iowa law would consider an unborn child to be the second victim of a violent crime perpetrated against a pregnant woman. The act would cover first-degree murder, which carries a life prison term without the possibility of parole. Current Iowa law targets what it calls the “unintended termination of a pregnancy,’’ slapping assailants with a series of felony penalties up to a maximum of 50 years in prison. But those punishments differ from standard penalties for violent crimes. “The goal is to say that an unborn child that’s injured or killed is as valuable, and the crime is as heinous, as if a born child were killed or injured,’’ said Chuck Hurley, a former lawmaker who leads the Iowa Family Policy Center. AND “It would not change the abortion laws,’’ he said.

Girolami had said he wanted a courthouse within driving distance of Modesto.

Clone-Slave State to Promote 'Legalized' Child
Abandonment to 'Discourage' Child Abandonment?

TRENTON, N.J. -- State officials plan an advertising and community outreach campaign to keep parents from dumping newborns in New Jersey[?], where just this month one infant's body washed up on the beach, one was left alive in a toilet and a third was left outside in a plastic bag. Dina Matos McGreevey, the wife of the governor, will be the voice of the television and radio ads about the Safe Haven Infant Protection Act, which allows parents to drop off unwanted newborns at hospitals or police stations without fear of prosecution. James Davy, the newly appointed state Human Services commissioner, said Tuesday that $400,000 would be spent on the advertising campaign from money budgeted under the Safe Haven act. "I want to flood the neighborhoods," Davy said. "I want to reach people where they live, where they work, where they shop and in the language which they speak."

Theater’s ‘Vagina Monologues’ Donation Angers Pro-Lifers
PORTSMOUTH - "Certainly, as a marketing director for a theater in a small town, I never thought I’d be on the front line of the abortion debate," said Stacy Baker-Chilicki, of the Seacoast Repertory Theatre. Baker-Chilicki said she knew it wasn’t business as usual when she started receiving calls from angry pro-life organizations and individuals last Monday. The calls were prompted by the announcement that proceeds from this year’s production of the "Vagina Monologues," set to begin on Feb. 15, would go to benefit the Portsmouth Feminist Health Center. Among the many services offered by the center are first-trimester abortions.

OLEAN, N.Y. -- The director of a day care center was sentenced Tuesday to three to nine years in prison for the death of a 7-month-old boy in her care. Christina Smith pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in November for the death of Noah Boser. Smith denied she fatally injured Noah Boser but accepted the plea deal because of the strong possibility of a conviction at trial. She was originally charged with second-degree murder in the case. Prosecutors said Smith hit Noah in the head Sept. 18, 2002 while caring for him at the state-registered day care center.
