Bush Gives $59 Million to UNFPA Abortion-Fund

Bush Gives $59 Million to UNFPA Abortion-Fund
WASHINGTON -- Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY) and Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-NY) praised the release of $59 million in international family planning funds withheld from the United Nations Population Fund (United Nations Family Planning Association, UNFPA) by the Administration over the last two years. The funds, which are included in the Fiscal Year 2004 Omnibus Appropriations bill passed by the House of Representatives, will support bilateral international family planning programs. "Better late than never for the Bush Administration to put these funds to work on behalf of vulnerable women and families," said Nita Lowey, Ranking Democrat of the Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee. The FY2004 Omnibus Appropriations Bill finally releases these funds. $34 million will be used for bilateral family planning and maternal and reproductive health activities. "The family planning funds we provide in this bill will go a long way, but UNFPA could save even more lives with our assistance. Congressman Crowley and I will continue to fight to provide UNFPA with the funds it needs and deserves."

Bush-Flashback to 2002
Redirection of $34 million from
UNFPA to USAID a 'stab in the back'

"President Bush's recent decision to redirect $34 million in government funds from the United Nations' abortion coercion activities in China to USAID's abortifacient 'contraceptives' program is a purely political move with no consistency behind it," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. "What he has given to pro-lifers with one hand, he has taken away with the other."

Fetal Deaths May Lead to Homicide Charges,
Coroner Office Ruled One Death a Homicide

Authorities are investigating three cases in Allegheny County in which pregnant women had miscarriages after incidents of domestic violence. Coroner Dr. Cyril Wecht's office recently ruled one death from September a homicide, but pathologists and investigators have not yet linked the most recent fetal deaths to assaults on the mothers. If they do, prosecutors will have to decide whether to file charges of homicide of an unborn child against the men accused of abusing the women.

Landlord Boots Planned Parenthood Clinic
The only Planned Parenthood health center in Cochise County is closing its doors. After 20 years in the same location, the Sierra Vista center has been given 30 days to leave its offices. Planned Parenthood says the landlord's decision comes three months after the agency started offering the abortion pill at the center.

Women's Group Condemns Docs For
Hiding Abortion/Breast Cancer Risks

PALOS HEIGHTS -- Illinois-based Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer blasted the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) last week for their efforts to squelch medical information warning the state's women of potential dangers of the link between abortion and breast cancer. Recently the Minnesota Public Health Department published a handbook discussing the risks of abortion that contained the following statement: "Findings from some studies suggest there is an increased risk of breast cancer among women who had an abortion, while findings from other studies suggest there is no increased risk."

Abortion Bill to Be Introduced Again
Women seeking abortions would be notified they could see an ultrasound or listen to the heartbeat of the fetus before terminating their pregnancies under a bill written by a local legislator. State Sen. Mike Young said women have the right to be fully informed before ending a pregnancy. But Planned Parenthood of Central Indiana opposes the bill, contending it’s just a backdoor way to intimidate pregnant women into not having abortions.

Abortion is the Crime of Murder
Make 2004 'The Year To Rescue The Unborn'

It is alarming to realize the nonchalance on the part of many concerning abortion. But it is not new. A popular news magazine quoted one medical opinion: "Abortion is finding its place as a perfectly acceptable and valid health measure. We no longer think of it as a crime."

Mother Accused of Drowning Son Pleads Not Guilty
A woman charged with drowning her infant son in a bathtub has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, while a judge has ruled her competent to stand trial. Yvonne Chapman entered her plea during a hearing on Monday in Transylvania County Superior Court. Police Find Newborn Stuffed In Trash Bag,
Anita Hearns Charged With Attempted Homicide

After receiving the initial call around 10:30 p.m., police went to the house, questioned the people inside and found nothing wrong. Officers returned to the area around 1:40 a.m. and found the crying baby stuffed in a trash bag in the back yard. The home on the 300 block of Walnut Avenue is described as a "hang out house," where drug users go to party and use drugs. Sources say Anita Hearns may have actually been getting high prior to going into labor. Hearns was released from Capital Health Systems Mercer campus yesterday afternoon, where she was being evaluated by doctors and guarded by officers. Upon her release, Hearns was arraigned by municipal court judge Carmen Garcia, and charged with attempted homicide and child endangerment.

The Savior of Game-Boy Christians
It's past time for the Church to start acting like the Church and lift the bushel off of her smoldering candle. The abortion holocaust "will" end only when the Church says so. Thus far She hasn't shown much concern over millions of dead children.

Man Saves Baby Left To Die In Toilet
A New Jersey woman gave birth into a toilet, then put down the lid and left her newborn daughter in the bowl to die - but her boyfriend rescued the infant, authorities said. The premature 3-pound, 2-ounce baby lay in the water for about 30 minutes after her birth in the bathroom of her mother's apartment Saturday, but her head was not submerged, Camden County prosecutor Vincent Sarubbi said.

State to Determine Fate of Baby Rescued from Toilet
The fate of a premature infant left to die in a toilet likely will be determined by the state's Division of Youth and Family Services, authorities said Monday. In cases like this, DYFS tries to place infants in the custody of their families, spokesman Andy Williams said. With the newborn's mother facing attempted murder charges, a key step would be locating the baby's father, Williams added.

Crocodile Dumb-dee: I'd Do Croc Stunt With Baby Again
Australian crocodile hunter Steve Irwin snapped back yesterday at claims he had risked his month-old son's life by holding him a few feet away from a 13-foot croc in a feeding stunt. He denied the accusations and said he would even do it again. "What I would do differently is I would make sure there were no cameras around.

'Genetic Counselors' Would be
Licensed Under Legislative Proposal

Lawmakers are considering whether the state should license genetic counselors, people who help others consider medical choices based on newly available information about their genetic propensity to get certain diseases. With the mapping of the human genome and the potential ability to determine whether people - or their unborn children - may be at genetic risk for certain diseases, the field has expanded, said Sen. Anna Cowin.

New Jersey Passes "Human Cloning Bill"
New Jersey has legalized embryonic stem cell research in legislation that opponents call "a human cloning bill." New Jersey Governor James McGreevey signed the bill on Sunday. "Despite facing overwhelming opposition from many fronts along the way, today we celebrate a great day for families, for research, and for the hope that miracles may be just around the corner," he said.

Baby in Care as Police Quiz Surrogacy-Case Mother
A NEWBORN baby has been taken into care as police in Yorkshire investigate claims that her mother sold the child to three different couples after making surrogacy agreements on the Internet. The baby girl is now being fostered by social services after a nationwide alert was issued about her 33-year-old mother from Keighley, who has been arrested and bailed.

Baby at Center of Rent-A-Womb Scam
A BABY born in a Southampton hospital was today at the centre of an Internet "rent-a-womb" scam. The three-week-old girl is said to have been promised to three couples who had set up an agreement with the baby's mother via an American surrogacy website. All the couples, including one from Hampshire, thought Moira Greenslade was carrying their baby and had forked out thousands of pounds to fulfil their dream of having a child.

County Plans Response To Birth-Control Bias Charge
Marathon County officials met Monday in closed session to discuss how to respond to a county employee's charges that the county discriminates against women by not paying for birth control prescriptions through its insurance. The unnamed female employee filed a complaint last month with the state Equal Rights Division of the Department of Workforce Development and with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

“The Pill” Kills Babies
DID YOU KNOW . . .
... that many commonly used forms of “birth control” or “contraception” can actually cause an abortion early in a pregnancy?

‘Plan B’ pill is a win-win to kill-kill
On a recent Wednesday, the man with the plastic models of fetuses was on the sidewalk outside Planned Parenthood in San Rafael, Calif. He has been showing up three days a week for about eight months. "Excuse me, can I give you some information before you go in?" he asked. I declined, but took the opportunity to ask what he thought of the Food and Drug Administration making the "morning after" pill available nationwide over the counter without prescription. As it would reduce the number of abortions by preventing unintended pregnancies, the proposal seems like a rare win-win for those who support the right of women to make their own reproductive decisions and those who oppose abortion. But the man was adamantly against it, echoing the opinion of pro-life members of Congress who signed a petition urging the FDA to reject the proposal. The pill causes an abortion, he explained.

Morning-After Pill Dispute Apt to Stir Again
Should you be able to pick up the ''morning-after pill'' -- which can help to prevent pregnancy if taken within 72 hours, the sooner the better -- in the aisles of your local drugstore? The Food and Drug Administration's advisory committee recently answered yes.

'Compassionate Conservatism' Is Anti-Family
The fate of families and children in Sweden shows the truth of Ludwig von Mises's observation that "no compromise" is possible between capitalism and socialism. Here I show how the welfare state's growth can be viewed as the transfer of the "dependency" function from families to state employees. The process began in 19th-century Sweden, through the socialization of children's economic time via school attendance, child labor, and state old-age pension laws. These changes, in turn, created incentives to have only a few, or no children. In the 1930s, social democrats Gunnar and Alva Myrdal used the resulting "depopulation crisis" to argue for the full socialization of child rearing. Their "family policy," implemented over the next forty years, virtually destroyed the autonomous family in Sweden, substituting a "client society" where citizens are clients of public employees. While Sweden is now trying to break out of the welfare state trap, the old arguments for the socialization of children have come to the United States.

Life Insurance Notification Bill Was
Prompted by Talk in Laci Peterson Case

Though well-intentioned, Assemblyman Dave Cogdill relied on false rumors about the Laci Peterson case to push changes in insurance laws at his wife's urging. It started in January 2003, when Cogdill, a Republican from Modesto, and his wife, Stephanie, heard a news update about Peterson.

The lawyer for a Sumner County woman charged with murder in the death of her newborn child contends in a court document that she may not be able to understand the charge against her. In Tapping Spiritual Resources

"If it's OK," says the doctor, "I'd like to ask God's blessing on your health." That would be fine, says the patient, so Dr. Brian Zehnder begins. Please bless Don and comfort him, Zehnder says, and bless his family. Zehnder is sitting in a small examining room at the Magna Center for Family Medicine. He has a stethoscope around his neck, and he is holding Don Loveless' hand as he continues his prayer. "I ask that you would supercharge Don's pancreas, so that it would make all the insulin he needs."
