Coroner Confirms Teen's RU-486 Death
Coroner Confirms Abortion Pill DeathOAKLAND, Calif. -- The Alameda County Coroner's Office confirmed Friday that drug-induced abortion medication was the official cause of death for an 18-year-old Livermore woman who died Sept. 17 in Pleasanton. According to Deputy Coroner Frank Gentle, Holly Patterson's "therapeutic drug induced abortion'' caused a condition called endomyometritis, an inflammation of the mucous membrane lining of the uterus. This inflamed condition set in several days after Patterson took the abortion drug, and in turn led to shock which ultimately killed her, Gentle said.
Teen's Death is Linked to Use of Abortion Pill
The coroner's preliminary report put in writing what Monty Patterson says he already knew in his heart: His 18-year-old daughter, Holly, died Sept. 17 of complications from a drug-induced abortion. His daughter didn't have to die, Patterson said in an interview Saturday. The Alameda County Coroner's Office had released a preliminary autopsy report the day before. ``Yes, Holly died of septic shock, which was caused by endomyometritis, which was caused by an abortion pill,'' Patterson said. ``But we're dancing around the issues.''
