Columnist Accused Of Assault On Child

MIDDLETOWN -- A Hartford Courant sports columnist has been charged with assaulting his infant son. Desmond Conner, 38, turned himself in to Middletown police Monday on charges of first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor. Middletown police and the state Department of Children and Families began investigating the case June 4, a day after the 5-week-old boy was hospitalized with breathing difficulties, said Sgt.
